Can't wait for UFC 63

UFC 63: Hughes vs. Penn Banner

We're less than a week away from the most exciting UFC pay-per-view event since Liddell-Couture III earlier this year.

That's right, the much anticipated rematch between UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes and former UFC Welterweight Champion BJ Penn is going to be off the charts.

And let's not forget about the undercard bouts, which are nothing to sneeze at, either.

UFC 63: "Hughes vs. Penn" has been flying under the radar as far as excessive UFC hype and over-the-top promotion are concerned. Maybe that's because the last few events have fallen below expectations or because Hughes and Penn are both on the quiet side.

Regardless, this one is going to be action-packed – mark our words. And if Liddell-Ortiz II doesn't happen this year, this will be the final true marquee UFC event of 2006.

(UFC 64 might be good ... but not better than what we're going to witness on September 23).

The Orange County Register today provides some good background on each fight for UFC 63: "Hughes vs. Penn." Check it out when you have a second.

Here's the official lineup for the evening:

--Matt Hughes (41-4) vs. B.J. Penn (10-3-1)
--Mike Swick (11-1) vs. David Loiseau (15-5)
--Jason Lambert (22-5) vs. Rashad Evans (9-0)
--Jens Pulver (21-6-1) vs. Joe Lauzon (12-3)
--Gabe Ruediger (10-2) vs. Melvin Guillard (38-6-3)
--Roger Huerta (14-1-1) vs. Jason Dent (12-6)
--Mario Neto (9-3) vs. Eddie Sanchez (7-0)
--Danny Abbadi (2-2) vs. Jorge Gurgel (12-1)
--David Lee (5-1) vs. Tyson Griffin (7-0)

With three lightweight bouts on the card, as well as two fighters renowned for their ability to end fights with one punch – Swick and Lambert – we're expecting a lot of highlights.

Let's get it on already!
