Roger Huerta to make UFC debut

UFC Lightweight Roger HuertaWho is UFC lightweight contender Roger Huerta (16-1-1)?

Good question.

The UFC's newest division – and perhaps already one of its deepest – is filled with big names and world class talent.

"El Matador" isn't one of them ... yet.

Huerta will make his UFC debut on September 23 when he faces Jason "Dynamite" Dent (12-6) as one of the undercard bouts at UFC 63: "Hughes vs. Penn" at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim in California.

To help us learn a little more about the man behind the red cape, KCAL9 in Los Angeles today sat down with its hometown product for a question and answer session.

Here's a snip:

"Everything [is riding on this fight]. Everything's at stake since this is my first UFC fight. I want to make a statement that I belong there. It's kind of like a job interview, and I want to make the best possible impression. [I will win] by TKO or submission. My main goal is to dominate, and look flawless."

The article also notes that Huerta is a part-time fighter, part-time student at Augsburg College in Minnesota.

On September 23, school will certainly be in session when fellow lightweight and former UFC champion Jens Pulver is also slated to step into the Octagon against Joe Lauzon for the first time in years.

Huerta would be wise to pay attention.
