UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey was recently on the set of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17, imparting her mixed martial arts (MMA) and Olympic-level Judo wisdom for the benefit of Team Chael Sonnen. "Rowdy," outweighed by at least 50 pounds, was sure to make an example of Uriah Hall, owner of the "Knockout of the Season," twice. Maybe he would have better luck if punches were allowed ... maybe.
Pic: Ronda Rousey's initials were recently tattooed on the ankle of Carey Fusco, who gushed on Twitter that "Rowdy" is "such a cool chick and a huge inspiration!" Rousey, who took time to actually autograph Carey when they crossed paths at a recent MMA event responded, "that's so cool!!" Carey can certainly be considered a super fan, however, she holds no candle to the creep dude who got an "Awesome" portrait of UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste blasted into his pigment for eternity (see that one here).
Ronda Rousey, 25, makes Forbes' "30 under 30" list in Sports. "Rousey, generally considered the world's No. 1 women's pound-for-pound MMA fighter, was previously the first U.S. woman to win an Olympic medal in Judo. Her dreaded armbar move has kept her undefeated." Should come as no surprise, considering "Rowdy" has made just about every recent list imaginable.
The UFC now has a page on its website for the newly created women's bantamweight division. It features only two fighters: Ronda Rousey, the champion, and Liz Carmouche, who will challenge Rousey for her belt at UFC 157 on Feb. 23, 2012, in Anaheim. That's the entire division, folks.
Liz Carmouche: Message to UFC President Dana White & Ronda Rousey WMMA star Liz Carmouche has nothing but respect for the first ever Female UFC Champion Ronda Rousey. In the video below, shot by Aaron Tru and Adrian Gallegos from MMAprime.tv, Carmouche credits Rousey for the inception of women into the Ultimate Fighting Championship. However, Carmouche does go on to say that she is the #1 contender at 135lbs and has earned the privileged of fighting Rousey for the title, when women compete for the first time inside of the Octagon.
