I was tweeting with the throbbing love sack that is our beloved oil_check and he remarked that I'm much crazier on twitter than on here. Now, I know I don't post much because I prefer to watch you guys bicker and hurl homophobic slurs at each other. I digress and let you know If I had unlimited money I would be dead from liver failure in a few years because I'm from the east coast of Canada and we are a bunch of fuckin drunks, but nothing compares to this guy I met in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

I moved out to Alberta at the tender age of 21, freshly dropped out of University because I got drunk studying for finals and forgot to pay my tuition for spring semester. I had heard stories about the stupid amount of money you could make labour work out there I hopped on a plane and moved in with a buddy of mine. Finding the weather in October in northern Alberta to be nut shrivelling I got a Job at the local Telus dealership making very good money and that is where I met a fellow named we affectionately referred to as Iris the Virus. We became very good friends and I learned that the reason he had such a nickname is because he thrived to cause shit.

One day I was invited out to drink with him and his friends from Prince Edward Island, Chief and The Bastard. I had heard stories about The Bastard getting drunk and doing outrageous things but chalked it up to embellishment. I will let you know he lived up to that moniker with fucking gusto.

So, there we are at the bar drinking pony glasses of vodka and redbull. For those of you unaware of what a pony glass is it's a beer pitcher with about 10 shots of vodka and like 5 cans of redbull, the shit should not be fucking sold period let alone to a bunch of rough neck rigg workers. Bastard for some reason decides to stand up on a pool table whip out his little baby dick and start urinating all over this young lady sitting at a table. Her boyfriend fucking lost his shit and walks up with one punch knocks the bastard the fuck out with. Seriously Bisping would pity the bastard after that punch. I figured I should probably leave since I figured the night couldn't get any better than seeing this and I had to work early the next day.

I'm sleeping on my friends couch when I hear banging on my door, I open it to see the bastard covered in blood and too drunk to form words. I'm a nice guy, so I clean him up and let him crash on the chair beside the couch. I woke up a short time later to him pissing on my fucking coffee table and I'm getting his retard piss all over my face and I start freaking out, but he isn't responding to my threats because he's sleep pissing (I should have listened to my friends who warned me because he does this ALOT.)

Anyways that was the first night I met the craziest drunk bastard ever.If you guys want to hear more I have some really fucked stories about his retarded if not just hurl insults at me.

I know oily wanted to hear the story about him getting locked in the closet and forced to smoke a bunch of crack by Native drug dealers and that's a good and short story. He got drunk at the casino met some weird Portuguese guys, they brought him to a house forced him go in to buy weed from some pyscho natives and the natives assumed he was a cop and locked him in a closet for like 6 hours and made him smoke a giant rock of crack.

Recently, Punkass from the famed clothing brand TapouT was seen on Travel Chennel's 'Toy Hunters' and he spent a heft amount... $17,000 on a Boba Fett. The famed hired gun by Darth Vader in the Star Wars saga has quite the cult following and this Kenner prototype which never hit market due to the projectile missle on it's back was nothing more than an uncolored prototype, A figure in it's likeness was in fact made but the figure had the missle 'stuck' to it's back, what fun is that?. Punkass apparently has almost everything you could imagine and when he asked what else the 'Toy Hunter' had, he unveiled the figure. The opening bid was $20,000 (A brokered deal for an Ohio-based comic store) and sought to generate 20% to keep. After a few moments of haggling, Punkass 'punked' him into dropping to $17,000 (Toy Hunter made $3,400). Then again, was it Toy Hunter who punked the obsssesed Stars War fan into paying $17,000 for a firing piece of plastic? Will Punkass' girlfirend kill him and go missing like Sergio Hernandez? Where Do You Draw the Line?

I have an honest and sincere question. On that Nick Diaz thread where people are trying to defend why it’s OK to call people faggots without it being a derogatory statement, why is it OK to have the word “fag” or “faggot” nearly 40 times in a thread at the time I am writing this but when I comment back to someone who said, “Is Caraway gay? If he’s not, then now does the word fag qualify as homophobic in this instance? Does saying someone is stupid somehow impune individuas who are actually mentally deficient? I don’t get the hyper-sensitivity. It seems overblown.” I get in trouble because I responded about how that statement they made made is about as smart as saying that if you called someone a derogatory name for African Americans (but said the word) and saying it wasn’t a racist statement if the person wasn’t in fact an African American? Me typing out that word got me extremely close to having the ban hammer thrown down. I get it, if I do the crime I should do the time. I agree in the same regards that Nick Diaz calling someone a “fag” and the UFC taking action is a just action by the UFC, I think that MMAMania has every right to see my use of that racial slur as grounds to take action against me, I get it. But what I don’t get is how is “fag” and “faggot” ok? It is even used in a “cute” manner in the headline of an article by making an alliteration of “fag flap” which used in and of itself out of context is a rather funny phrase. I love this community and have been here for years. This isn’t meant to piss off or be a big middle finger to the Moderators, just an honest question and a desire to discuss this because I am at a loss why it’s OK to sling a word around that refers to a group of human beings in such an inflammatory way in some instances but not others.

Brandon Vera announced on his Facebook page that he is fighting Ben Rothwell in the heavyweight division at UFC 164. Apparently Vera is sick of dieting or doesn't want to rematch Bones. Not sure why he is going back to Heavyweight at all. On top of that does he really think he can defeat other top Heavyweights in the UFC? I cant see him standing a chance against Cain, Dos Santos, Overeem, Big Foot, and more.

Superhulk Tourney! 2 More Candidates Please!

In light of recent news of Canseco and Shaq wanting to throw down, what other two notable/famous people should be involved in a 4 man super hulk tourney with Shaq/Canseco, and how would you pair up the bracket?

I for one would choose these two notables: William "Refrigerator" Perry and Kevin James. An older (Perry) celebrity and a current actor who is into MMA. UFC should promote this in their upcoming Fox broadcast.

Pairing should be Shaq v. Kevin James and Canseco v. Perry. Set it up so that Shaq and Canseco who are both favored to meet in the final for the first ever UFC super heavyweight belt.

Jack Slack on Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva: Perfectly Flawed

Again, as it was requested earlier, here's the link to the latest Jack Slack piece. It is a quality breakdown of the flaws (and some positive traits) of the challenger in the upcoming UFC 160 headliner between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva.

While Silva holds wins over two of the most impressive names in heavyweight MMA-Fedor Emelianenko and Alistair Overeem-he is one of the most obviously flawed fighters in MMA today. While Silva can punch, he can't box for love nor money, and while he has one of the scariest top games in MMA, he is an exceptionally poor wrestler.

The first major flaw in Silva's game is the ponderous way in which he begins every fight. In almost every bout, Bigfoot plods toward his opponent and simply stands there as if he is considering the options available to him-but then almost always leads with a right low kick without any setup.

As you all probably know, Pat Healy recently popped for marijuana, along with lots of other fighters in the past, Nick Diaz being the most notorious for the issue. First and foremost, this post is NOT about the legality issue of marijuana. I know you bastards will make it into that in the comments section, but lets try to at least postpone that part for now.

What this post IS about is the frustrations of a little guy who aspires to be a real professional MMA fighter. Last night, I was relaxing in my man cave after a good night of rolling and sparring, playing some Xbox, thinking about how good life was at that moment. A few minutes later, I was put into a mild rage by a text message. “Healy popped for weed. Sigh.” Now, most people would shake their heads and think “Man, that’s stupid. Legalize it!!!!” But I chose to react differently.

Healy just put on the best performance of his career. He finished a top 5 lightweight. He was probably a fight away from a shot at the world title. He made a crapload of bonus money. And you know what was more important to him than all of that? Weed. Getting high.

Healy owned it like a man, and I give him props for that. I was very pleasantly surprised when he came out with his statement, and it was something other than “fuck the police, LEGALIZE IT!!!” which we hear all too often. However, he made a very simple choice. It’s not like he got high then got a short notice call to fight Jim Miller. He was preparing to fight a top 5 contender. He had a full camp. He knew what a win would mean. And none of that was important enough to Healy to make him “just say no.”

This enrages me. A close friend just got cut from the UFC after beating Mark Hominick and then losing to Diego Brandao. A friend that stated on multiple occasions he loved fighting for the UFC and wanted to keep his job above all else. He followed all rules, competed, lost, and got cut. Nothing “wrong” with that. The UFC can cut fighters on a loss, that’s fine. Myself, I’d read Kyu comics 12 hours a day, every day, for a year, just to get one fight in the UFC. If it didn’t affect the well-being of my wife, friends, or family, I’d do it if it got me into the UFC. No question. Now, I love me some gummy worms. But If I was offered that fight in the UFC, you can bet your ass I’d stay away from the gummy worms for that 3 month camp. Who wouldn’t right? If I was offered a fight that, upon winning, would get me within smelling range of the belt? Jesus Christ on rollerskates, I’d be the very picture of how professionals are supposed to train. So Mr. Healy, respectfully, fuck you for saying that weed is more important than the opportunity you were given. Remember the days when you were grinding it out on the regional cards in rodeo arenas for $500? Yes, you do. Remember when you were dreaming of fighting under the bright lights and making real money? Yes, you do. And you know what? That guy would kick the everliving shit out of you for what you did.

Brian Caraway received Healy’s bonus, and I cannot express enough how goddamn beautiful that is. I can hear Dana White now: “You think smoking weed is more important than fighting in the UFC? Alright motherfucker, we’re gonna take that 65 grand you thought you won and give it to someone who not only follows the rules, he’s banging Meisha Tate. Double burn bitch! Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it motherfucker.”

The point is simple. Having weed in your system while competing is against the rules. So is kneeing the head of a downed opponent. Is it illegal to walk down the street wearing shorts with grips on the inner thighs? Nope. But you know what? It’s illegal to fight in the UFC with those same shorts on. So who cares whats legal and not legal. I don’t think Pat is in danger of going to jail. Its not the point. Its against the rules of the sport, he knew that full well, and said “Nope, don’t care enough about my MMA career, Im gon smoke dis weeeed and get HIIIIIIGGGHHHH!”

That joint better have cost more than $65,000. Otherwise you just fucked yourself hard Healy. And you know that. And I’m glad you can own it. But, you deserve to lose that money. And to be at the bottom of the 155lb ladder.

Police State: Coming to a City Near You.

Imagine this: Four or five police officers stand outside of a home. There is a child playing outside and a child inside of a house that also is occupied by a mother and father. The officers refuse to leave the yard. They say they want the family to come outside or they are coming in. They have no warrant, no probably cause, nothing. They say there was a domestic disturbance complaint but offer no proof and no citation. Once the officers are informed by both the mother and father that a mistake has been made, they insist on coming in anyway.

With a camera in the father's hands, and the mother's hands above her head, they enter. Not with a knock, but with a boot that nearly removes the door from it's hinges. The mother is then grabbed by an officer and tazed by another. The father, doing what any loving husband would do, tries to defend his wife as best he can. As she screams in pain and agony on the floor, the father is then tazed by yet another officer. As the camera hits the ground, we hear the screaming of a father and mother as their bodies are rendered useless by 50,000 volts. They are then forcefully removed from their home in front of their children. No warrant, no citation, no probable cause.

I think this picture pretty much sums it up for this entire season. I get that after 17 season, they needed something new, something different to increase the ratings. But I had no idea they would try to sell us another UFC: Jersey Shore Edition. I think this type of business puts the UFC down the wrong path. One that is focused on pure entertainment rather than the respect for the sport. What do you think?

UFC on FS1 2 Maincard announced (Indy)

I am an Indiana resident & fully intend on attending this event. Things havent gone well the last couple attempts the UFC gave in visiting Indianpolis. U might not remember them, as one (UFC 119) was a diaster of a maincard, after a really nice undercard. The second event, scheduled for early September of 2012 was canceled because of injury epidemic. This time they stepped it up & really delivered, DAMN THIS CARD IS STACKED!!!:

Maniacs,

The third person who decided to volunteer for my interview series is an amateur MMA fighter/lurker from the state of VT. Silver Fox is the proud father of a beautiful daughter and is quite humble despite being a true bad ass.

1) What is your favorite base martial art to watch? Why?

I love watching Muay Thai. The elegance of a fighter who can effectively use 8 points of their body to strike with is just something I have a hard time defining. Seeing a fighter throw combinations with punches, kicks, knees, and elbows just gets my heart pumping. Just the fact that someone who can effectively use Muay Thai in an MMA match makes me want to watch.

2) Who is your favorite fighter from that base MA? Please give an example of his/her greatest moment or a highlight you feel that captures the essence of said fighter.

I'm gonna have to go with Shogun here. I feel he's lost a step from his Pride days, but it's like his whole career is a highlight of his skills. Looking back to when he put a beating on Rampage, it was like a Muay Thai clinic as he advanced himself towards winning the 2005 Pride Grand Prix.

Another, more recent highlight of his Muay Thai skills was in his second go round with Machida. It was just beautiful to watch as he showed the world that Machida was beatable, and did it in extraordinary fashion by knocking him out in the first round.

3) Do you participate in any MA today? If not, which base MA would you pick? Why? What attracts you to it?

I don't do it anywhere near as often as I used to, or as often as I should, but I do still train in Muay Thai and BJJ. I also just started incorporating wrestling into my training and even though I'm completely lost when it comes to it, I enjoy it because I feel it helps give me a more complete attack.

I initially started training Muay Thai because I'm 6'1" and lanky, and I have a wingspan of 76". I figured with my reach it would be a good martial art to train. After I was into it for a while I was sparring as much as possible and started doing BJJ with the same group. Being a completely different ballgame, BJJ was a whole new challenge for me and I took to it quickly because I found another way to use my long limbs for attacking.

4) List your top 3 favorite MMA fighters of all time. Why? What do you feel is the most defining moment for each fighter. Give examples.

When trying to think of my favorite fighters, GSP always comes to mind first. I'll be honest, I do miss him finishing fights. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching him fight his way to winning a decision. The man is a tactician and witnessing his top control and how well he utilizes it just amazes me.

His defining moment for me is in his rubber match with Matt Hughes. I could feel the excitement when you can see Matt Hughes yelling to the ref "Tap tap tap!"

My next would have to be Machida. I enjoy watching a technical counter striker and with how elusive he is, I really find him interesting to watch. I'd have to say his defining moment to me, was seeing him dismantle Thiago Silva. I was honestly stunned, and I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one.

Next up is Urijah Faber. He's got a swagger that just makes me like him. He's well rounded and exciting, and he takes risks. He's always willing and ready to fight, and he is always on the attack. I've gotta say that the defining moment for me was when he choked out Jeff Curran to retain the WEC featherweight strap. I thought Curran had a good chance in that fight because he had a ton of experience, but Faber just outclassed him.

5) List your top 3 MMA fighters on your shit list. Why? What do you feel is the most defining moment for each fighter that made you feel this way. Give examples.

To be honest my MMA shit list can start and end with Josh Koscheck. He just rubs me the wrong way and I can't stand him. I mean, I understand there's a reason he's in the UFC, but I just don't think he's much of a fighter. His tactics are to talk shit and get inside his opponent's head to try to bait them into a brawl. And he's a punk, I read him like a book. I'm guessing he was popular in high school and then realized once he got out into the real world that he wasn't shit, so he started making noise to draw some attention. Well it worked, and I think he's a dick. The thing that comes to mind that really makes me think he should have chosen soccer as a sport, is when Anthony Johnson attempted to knee him while he was down, and he acted like he got smashed with a baseball bat. Sorry dude, there are enough cameras to show that yes, it was an illegal knee, but he barely hit your arm and you screamed like a bitch that he got your eye. Come on now.

Another fighter that I can put down here is Leonard Garcia. Now don't take me wrong, I don't mind watching him fight. He is a brawler and he's always moving forward. But you need to step your game up man, you haven't evolved since you lost to Huerta. The only reason you're winning fights is because they're awarding you points based on you flailing around like a rag doll while moving forward. I could have smashed my TV when they awarded you the win against Nam Phan the first time around, and I'm glad they got it correct the second time around. You train with Jackson's, you've got no excuse for not evolving.

I've also gotta put Karo Parisyan on this list. What makes me dislike him is how he acted towards the contestants on season 5 of TUF, especially Nate Diaz. He was a complete asshole and it was absolutely unwarranted. I understand that it's an emotional sport and that flows into training and the locker rooms, but threatening someone like that is a total dick move. Especially when you're mediocre at best, and you've got more than enough personal issues to be the one to throw any stones.

6) As an amateur fighter, what are your thoughts on the Fallon Fox situation?

As a fighter I have no problem with fighting whoever signs to enter the cage opposite me as long as their medicals are up to snuff and they made weight. Having been in a coaching role before though, I feel that is where it gets tricky. If the fighter stepping up knows they are being offered a transgender fighter and they accept it then that's fine. If they don't find out until after signing then I see it becoming an issue. As far as I'm concerned, if a promotion is willing to put on the fight and the fighters both sign to fight, there's no issue to be had.

7) Also, a player for the NBA just recently came out and announced his gay lifestyle. Your thoughts on sharing a locker room with gay fighters?

It honestly doesn't bother me. I zone out in the locker room, don't really notice anything around me until after showtime. I'm there, I'm focused, if there are gay fighters in there it doesn't make any difference to me. Everyone is watching everyone else anyway, I don't think it should be an issue to anyone what someone's orientation is. Everyone in the locker room is there to fight, or to help a fighter. They're not looking for someone to take home.

8) Is MMA legislated in VT? If so, can you describe the orgs and how they work?

I know that it's in the process of becoming fully sanctioned, but I don't think it has gone all the way yet. I've only ever worked with two promotions up here and some of the people are tied together so they were similar. We follow unified rules, just no elbows for amateurs. Yearly blood screening (full Hep panel, HIV/AIDS), and yearly physical.

9) When is your next fight? Any background on your opponent? What will you be specifically working on to secure a victory? Feel free to advertise your camp in your answers.

My next fight will be June 22, in Barre, VT. I'm tentatively scheduled to face Randy Lamb, whom I don't know much about. He's 0-1 and he lost by submission in his fight. Watching how his fight played out I feel like he's a wrestler. I'm actually wrapping hands at an event tonight(5-11) and he'll be fighting. I plan on paying attention to that and seeing if I need to change my game plan from out boxing him and staying off of my back.

What I'm really working on this time around is going in the cage and fighting my fight. My last fight I expected to fight against a game plan, and I feel like when he wasn't what we were expecting it took me too long to adjust and that's what lost me the fight. I want to go in the cage and keep my own pace, keep the fight where I want it, and look for the finish. I'm gonna go in there, have fun, and show what I can do.

As far as team goes, I'm technically an independent fighter. I train with a few guys who are affiliated with Team Link, but I'm not affiliated myself. I split my time between two gyms currently. There is NEK Fitness, where I do strength and conditioning, and we're also working on getting a grappling program going. I also train at The Club at Old Mill with the Link affiliated guys and a few others. Generally there are about 12 of us in there, most are active fighters or will soon be making their debuts.
