CM Punk impressed a lot of people with his heart by making it to a decision at UFC 225, even if that decision went 30-26 to his opponent Mike Jackson on all three judges’ scorecards. But as far as UFC president Dana White is concerned, heart isn’t enough to keep you around in the UFC.
”No, it should be a wrap,” White said at the post-fight press conference. “The guy is 39 years old, I love the guy, he’s the nicest guy in the world. We gave him two shots and he had a lot of heart tonight in this fight. I think he should call it a wrap.”
White was unable to give an update on Punk’s condition because the former wrestling star had been transported to the hospital shortly after his fight.
”We don’t know yet,” he said. “Hopeflly he’s okay. A lot of people got transported tonight.”
But did Punk impress White with his heart?
”He did, he did,” White said. “He got clipped a lot in that fight and it looked like he was hurt bad a couple of times. He stayed in there, he went for three rounds.”
Considering the lack of experience, that’s probably as good as it’s going to get for CM Punk. At least in the UFC, anyway. But who’s ready for Punk in Bellator?
