Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is gearing up for his Dustin Poirier fight at the upcoming UFC 211: “Miocic vs. Dos Santos 2” pay-per-view (PPV) event this Saturday night (May 13, 2017) inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
More on that pairing here.
Alvarez (28-5) knows he’s one or two big wins away from another crack at the 155-pound crown; however, it might be difficult to convince the fair-weather mixed martial arts (MMA) community he’s the man with the master plan.
Unless he also saws through fan-favorite Nate Diaz.
“The UFC’s pretty crazy. There’s a couple other guys in front of me but it really depends on how you fight and what kind of show you put on,” Alvarez told Luke Thomas (via MMA Fighting). “But I don’t care. I want to knock out Dustin and then I want to get Nate Diaz off his bicycle and get him back in the cage in some way, shape, or form.”
Diaz is currently MIA.
Alvarez was riding a three-fight winning streak — one that netted him the UFC lightweight title — until he ran into Conor McGregor at the UFC 205 PPV last November in New York City, getting thrashed by “Notorious” in “The City That Never Sleeps.”
But his road back to the division strap will be a short one if he’s sleeping on Poirier this weekend in “Big D.”
