You didn't think Gegard Mousasi's verbal fire was limited to just the Middleweights, did you?
"The Dreamcatcher" was recently in Singapore doing the media rounds for Ultimate Fightimg Championship (UFC) when he accused said mixed martial arts (MMA) media of creating Ronda Rousey.
To be exact, Gegard says the former women's Bamtamweight champion was made out to be one of the great MMA fighters of all time, when in reality she doesn't know how to throw a proper kick or punch.
"She’s a good fighter, she has the mentality of a fighter, but she doesn’t have the skills of a stand-up fighter,” said Gegard via MMA Fighting.
"How can the media make her one of the best fighters when she can’t even kick or punch? That’s like Serena Williams [playing] without a backhand. How do they make her the greatest fighter of all time?”
After dominatimg women's MMA for while, Rousey went in to suffer back-to-back knockout defeats at the hands of Holly Holm and then Amanda Nunes.
What resulted was a storm of criticism for Ronda and her head trainer for trying to implement her standup skills instead of what brought her to the big dance: jiu-jitsu.
Of course, when you're on top of the combat world, it's easy to get used to all the accolades, but when your down, accepting the backlash is easier said than done.
How Rousey reacts to the latest string of criticism remains to be seen; but if your hoping to see her offer a rebuttal inside the Octagon, you could be waiting a long time.
