Oblique kicks - A Bones Invention?

As I am wont to do, I was watching old UFC PPVs on Fight Pass, and, yes, I had to endure the Chuck Liddell 1-4 streak, as well as enjoy the astonishing underratedness of Keith Jardine. However, when I got to UFC 97 (Redemption - back when they named them, for whatever fucking reason), I paid close attention to the main event - Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites. Anderson was toying with him in his usual manner, but Leites was getting some traction in some of the exchanges. There was an eye poke by Silva, and Leites never seemed the same after that. MMA gloves, amirite? Anywho, Leites started pulling a Werdum vs. Overveem stunt and dropping to guard at every chance he could. That's pretty cunty, but in the fourth round he seemed to find his testicles. However, Anderson was um, feeling it, I guess, and started throwing these kicks that are now known as oblique kicks. He must have thrown twenty of them. Joe Rogan called them "front leg side kicks to the knee".

Perfectly fine with the supposed GOAT does it, but when Jon Jones does it, it's dirty?

Just thought I'd point this out.
