Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the pay-per-view (PPV) market this Saturday night (Feb. 11, 2017) for UFC 208: “Holm vs. De Randamie," which takes place inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The promotion's latest mixed martial arts (MMA) event will be headlined by Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie, as they collide for the women’s inaugural featherweight championship. In the UFC 208 co-headliner, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva tries to get back into the win column against rugged 185-pound contender Derek Brunson.

Holm’s issue right now is that shes running straight at Germaine and eating huge punches in return. More leg kicks from Holm, who eats another cracking counter right. And another. One minute to go. Round 2: Leg kick from Holm; that’s been her only effective strike thus far. de Randamie answers with a body kick. Counter 1-2 lands for de Randamie. Counter right. Holm lands a punching combination. One minute in. Oblique kick by Holm, who walks into a check hook. Cracking counter right once again. I use “Cracking” because that’s the sound it’s making. Holm with a body kick and they clinch. Round 3: Holm looks lucid when they resume, moving and striking. Counter right again by de Randamie. Low kick connects. One minute in. Holm head kick blocked. Side kick lands. Counter right and leg kick land for de Randamie. Two minutes in. Holm counters a counter. She shoots, stuffed. 1-2 lands for the Dutchwoman, then another right hand inside. 1-2 sets up a body kick. Brunson shoots and gets Silva to the mat with ninety seconds to go. One minute to go. Silva has his guard closed, trying to keep Brunson close. They trade strikes from there until the bell. I have no clue how to score this fight. 10-9 Brunson on bigger punches and the takedown.

185 lbs.: Jacare Souza vs. Tim Boetsch
Round 1: Souza on the front foot early. Front kick to the body, left hook upstairs. Long double-leg, Boetsch stuffs it and they move about in the clinch. One minute in. Body shots from Souza and a hard right hand on the exit. Leg kick from Boetsch. Again and a right hand. Souza to the body but Boetsch dings him with another right. Two minutes in. Souza catches a low kick and takes Boetsch down against the cage. Side control for Jacare. Two minutes to go.
Full mount for Jacare. He quickly locks up a kimura and forces the tap.

205 lbs.: Glover Teixeira vs. Jared Cannonier
Round 1: Teixeira looking for his customary right hand early. Uppercut just misses. Nice single-leg by Teixeira, who passes quickly to half guard. One minute in. Cannonier regains guard. Back to half guard. Cannonier’s doing a solid job at defense. Cannonier turns into him, only to fall right into a guillotine. He manages to escape, but is back on the bottom in side control. Two minutes to go.
Cannonier clamping down on half guard. One minute to go. Teixeira shuts down an attempt to stand and takes mount. Cannonier regains half guard after taking a couple of left hands. He scoots to the fence and makes it to his feet. Cannonier landing well in the last few seconds. 10-9 Teixeira.
Round 2: Both men jabbing in the early going. 1-2 by Cannonier. Cracking jab. Glover shoots and hits another easy single-leg. One minute in. Teixeira back in half guard. Cannonier makes a bit of space and closes guard. Two minutes in. He scoots towards the fence, only for Teixeira to turn him to the side. Two minutes to go.
The referee stands them up. More jabs from Canonier. One minute to go. Double jab from Teixeira. Right to the body. Both men landing. Solid right cross and a body shot from the Brazilian before the bell. 10-9 Teixeira.
Round 3: Teixeira lands the same single-leg once again and takes side control. Cannonier regains half guard. Teixeira looking a bit more active after being stood up last round. Two minutes in. Teixeira moves to mount and denies an attempt to buck him off via the cage. Cannonier makes another attempt to bridge and this time regains half guard. Two minutes to go.
Back to full mount and he briefly threatens an arm triangle before Cannonier again regains half guard. One minute to go. Once again he’s in full mount, then grabs a seatbelt grip when Cannonier tries to stand. Cannonier makes it up and separates before the bell. 10-8 Teixeira under the new rules.

155 lbs.: Dustin Poirier vs. Jim Miller
Round 1: Miller to the legs and body early. One minute in. Poirier lands a hard leg kick of his own. Another left to the body from Miller. Leg kick. Good counter left by Poirier and Millor shoots. Poirier sprawls and lands some solid shots inside. Elbow and right hook sting Miller on the exit. Miller throws back, soon landing a straight left. Body kick met by a Poirier left hand. Two minutes to go.
Good combination lands for Miller, who catches a leg kick. Straight left by Poirier. Miller with a counter hook. Poirier looking for a booming left that Miller’s thus far avoided. He catches a kick and trips Miller up, only for Miller to shoot in and quickly transition to his back. Miller looking for the choke, gets rolled into guard. Poirier on top in half guard, lets him up and slugs away. Straight left dings Poirier as they trade huge shots until the bell. 10-9 Miller.
Round 2: Sneaky uppercut by Miller as they continue to trade. Nice leg kick nearly puts Poirier on the mat. More big punches from both men. One minute in. Straight left lands for Poirier. Big punches by Poirier sting Miller, who shoots. Poirier fights it off and looks for more hard shots. Low kick from Miller met by a 1-2. Straight left and body shot from Miller met by a straight right. Two minutes in. HUGE punches from Poirier but Miller’s throwing back. Man, you can hear how hard these are. Nice left by Miller. Body shot. Good body kick with two minutes to go.
More punches from Poirier. Both land left hands. Miller shoots and nearly runs over the ref as he hauls Poirier to the fence. Elbows from The Diamond. Poirier ducks down and takes Miller down into guard. One minute to go. eE elects to let Miller up. Low kick by Miller, who seems to be fading fast. More big shots by Poirier. Round 3: Straight left from Miller early. Both men landing hard punches as usual. Leg kicks seem to hurt Poirier. Another leg kick knocks Poirier down. His leg is not there anymore. Straight left from Miller, right hook by Poirier. Another leg kick by Miller. He’s swinging for the fences with these. Poirier catches the next leg kick and sets up in guard. They trade right hands. Leg kick exchange. Both land punches and Muhammad slips in more leg kicks. Nice combo. One minute to go. More leg kicks. Body shot connects for Muhammad. Another leg kick trips Brown up. Three good punches from Brown. 10-9 Muhammad.
Round 2: Both men busy early. Brown front kick misses by inches. Body kick does not miss. More leg kicks from Muhammad, who wades in with some wide shots and ties up on the fence. One minute in. Brown avoids the takedown and lands a punching combination. Sharp punches from Brown. Muhammad catches an eye poke. He shoots and they jockey for position on the fence. Two minutes in. They separate forty seconds later. Low kick from Muhammad. Brown working his jab. Two minutes to go.
More leg kicks by Muhammad. He tries to go high, then scores a takedown and immediately takes the back. One minute to go. Both hooks in for Muhammad. He drops some sold punches and hammerfists on Brown until the bell. 10-9 Muhammad.
Round 3: More leg kicks from Muhammad. Left hand lands for Brown. Muhammad eats a low blow and they pause for a second. Muhammad shoots, stuffed. One minute in. He keeps driving and takes Brown down into guard. Brown immediately looks for mission control. Muhammad avoids an armbar attempt and continues the ground-and-pound. Two minutes in. Another armbar, this one too slow. Brown trying to use the cage to stand and gives up his back again. Two minutes to go.
Both hooks in for Muhammad. Staying steady with punches, locks up the body triangle. One minute to go. With less than thirty seconds to go, Brown spins into top position and drops ground-and-pound until the bell. 10-9 Muhammad.

125 lbs.: Wilson Reis vs. Ulka Sasaki
Round 1: Breakneck start to the fight, both men sending out punches and kicks. Straight right lands for Sasaki and Reis scores a takedown. One minute in. Full guard. Sasaki threatens a Kmura, manages to stand despite giving up his back. Another right hand by Sasaki. Reis shoots, stuffed. Low kick from Reis. Two minutes in. Another right by Sasaki and a body kick behind it. Reis cracks him with a straight left. Nice blast double for Reis and Sasaki again looks for the Kimura. Reis looking to pass, slips his arm free. Two minutes to go.
Sasaki regains guard, Reis retakes half guard after eating an elbow. Short elbow by Reis. One minute to go. Elbows from Reis. Sasaki using a closed guard to minimize damage. Sasaki makes room to stand and does so before the bell. 10-9 Reis.
Round 2: Reis opens with a low kick. Right hook lands for him, then another. Again and he hits a nice level change into half guard. Nice transition to the back, both hooks in. One minute in. Sasaki sweeps into top position, but bails when Reis threatens his own sweep. They trade punches. Sasaki shoots, sprawled on. Two minutes in. Sasaki tries a Granby roll, surrenders guard two minutes in. Reis gives him space and then takes the back once again when Sasaki tries to scramble up. Vicious neck crank, Sasaki breaks his grip. Two minutes to go.
Reis transitions to an arm triangle. He retakes the back, and traps a hand, cranking away. Sasaki frees his hand and fights it off. He scrambles up and lands a knee, only to get taken down once again. 10-9 Reis.
Round 3: Reis advancing, throwing nice punches. He shoots, Sasaki denies it. One minute in. Solid kicks from Sasaki and a good knee. He shrugs off a takedown attempt and fires his jab. Head kick lands. Hard right hook jacks Sasaki’s jaw in return. Reis shoots. Two minutes in. He gets him down this time. Sasaki stands, avoiding a back take. Two minutes to go.
They separate. Body kick and a beautiful double-leg from Reis. He gets overconfident, though, and Sasaki manages to take his back. One minute to go. Nice elbows from Sasaki. He maintains the body triangle until the bell. 10-9 Sasaki.
Final result: Reis def. Sasaki by unanimous decision
145 lbs.: Nik Lentz vs. Islam Makhachev
Round 1: Both kick and tie up early. Makhachev puts him on the fence. Lentz knees the body. Makhachev fishing for trips, takes him down a minute in. Half guard for Makhachev, but Lentz locks up a guillotine. Makhachev works his head free and Lentz tries to get his back on the fence. Makhachev does well to deny him. LEntz makes a solid effort to stand, denied again. Two minutes in. Makhachev looking for half guard. He gets it and lands an elbow. Two minutes to go.
Lentz looks for butterfly hooks, uses hem to make space and stand. One minute to go. Makhachev catches a knee and scores another takedown, waiting out a guillotine. 10-9 Makhachev.
Round 2: Makhachev firing off kicks early. They clinch, throwing rights on the exit. Body kick from Lentz, Makhachev comes back with a Brazilian kick and punches. Nice kicks to the body and head from Makhachev. One minute in. Inside trip puts Makhachev back on top, taking half guard. Two minutes in. Lentz is doing well to limit Makhachev’s ground-and-pound and passing. Makhachev looking for mount, can’t get it. Lentz again looks for a guillotine. Two minutes to go.
Makhachev quickly pops out and blatantly grabs the fence to aid his passing. Elbow by the Dagestani. Makhachev looking to set up an arm triangle choke, moves to side control. One minute to go. Back to half guard, then the mount. Lentz spins and gives up his back to try and stand. 10-9 Makhachev.
Round 3: Lentz lands a straight left early. He’s moving forward, sending out slow strikes. Spinning back fist misses. Body kick from Makhachev stings Lentz, who catches a flying knee and looks for a takedown. Makhachev counters it with a trip into half guard. Two minutes in. Sporadic ground-and-pound from Makhachev. He passes to side control and looks to isolate an arm. Two minutes to go.
Makhachev surfing well, constantly shifting position and landing strikes. Some heavier punches landing for him. He takes the back and thumps away with punches. One minute to go. Lentz manages to slip out and shoot in. Makhachev throws him back down before the bell. I’m gonna call 10-8 Makhachev under the new rules.

145 lbs.: Rick Glenn vs. Phillipe Nover
Round 1: Nover lands a 2-3 early. Body kick lands and Glenn comes back with a straight left. One minute in. Lovely head kick from Nover lands clean, but Glenn immediately cracks him with a left cross. 2-3 by Glenn. Two minutes in. Nover with a check hook. Stiff right hand connects. Two minutes to go.
Another check hook. Nice jab. Another head kick connects and Glenn just ignores it. Glenn lands the straight left again. One minute to go. Spinning back elbow lands for Nover, who’s clowning a bit. Both land hard as Glenn ties up. 10-9 Nover.
Round 2: Nover sending out kicks early. Glenn tries a low kick, checked. Left hook from Nover. Glenn with a body kick and they trade. One minute in. Nover shoots, sprawled on. Glenn head kick attempt. Low kick lands and he clinches, taking a knee to the body. Two minutes in. He changes levels and scores a brief takedown before Nover pops up. Glenn staying heavy on him. Two minutes to go.

Round 3: Both men active early on. Swatting hook by Nover. One minute in. Nover pops him with the jab. Inside low kick from Glenn, eats another jab. Body kick met by a jab. Both just miss with big shots. Check hook by Nover and Glenn ties up, looking to muscle him down. Two minutes in. Nover with a few knees and elbows as Glenn struggles. Referee separates them with two minutes to go.

Round 1: LaFlare southpaw, Carneiro orthodox. LaFlare opens with a liver kick. Carneiro tries a head kick, lands a low kick. LaFlare whiffs on a wheel kick. One minute in. Left hand behind a liver kick. Check hook lands. Another body kick and he ties up. They separate. Straight right connects for Carneiro. Another one and LaFlare shoots. Carneiro denies it with underhooks, two minutes in. LaFlare misses with a head kick. Carneiro leg kick. He shoots and LaFlare counters it into deep half guard. Two minutes to go.
LaFlare limp-legs out and stands. Body kick lands and Carneiro shoots, eating a knee. One minute to go. Knee from LaFlare. He circles out. Quick punching exchange. Carneiro leg kick. 10-9 LaFlare.
Round 2: They trade low kicks. Another hard body kick from LaFlare and a straight left. Big left hand drops Carneiro and LaFlare follows him down into guard. Announcers think it was a slip. One minute to go. LaFlare landing some short punches, keeping Carneiro against the fence. Carneiro kicks him away and stands two minutes in. LaFlare sending out head kicks. Round 3: LaFlare pressuring early. Left hand connects. Good body shot. Carneiro wings a right hand and tries to pull guard to no avail. One minute in. 1-2-3 and another straight left by LaFlare. LaFlare launches a wheel kick and scores a takedown into half guard. Carneiro stands and lands a right hand. Body kick from LaFlare, Carneiro with a leg kick. Two minutes to go.
