In the only lightweight matchup on the card last night (Sat., Feb. 4, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 104 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, knockout artist Abel Trujillo looked to extend his win streak to four when he took on Texas native and former Ultimate Fighter standout James Vick. It was Vick’s first Octagon appearance since dropping his first professional loss to Beneil Dariush via knockout back at UFC 199 last year.
As the smaller fighter, Trujillo utilized footwork, head movement and angling in the early going to get inside on Vick and try to land leather to chin. Unfortunately, Vick’s distance control was on point, forcing Trujillo to shoot for takedowns and launch overhand rights from the outside. Trujillo landed on occasion, but it was Vick who recorded the more meaningful shots en route to closing out his impressive performance with a third-round D’Arce choke.

With this win, Vick moves right back into the win column at 155 pounds and immediately warrants dark horse consideration for a top 15 spot in 2017. As a fighter who has shown significant strides each and every time he steps foot inside of the Octagon, “The Texecutioner” has nowhere to go but up from this point on.
