Since losing his UFC middleweight title to Michael Bisping at UFC 199 last June, Luke Rockhold has yet to step foot back inside the Octagon. Through no fault of his own, of course, as he is currently nursing an injury that forced him out of his scheduled rematch against Ronaldo Souza (details).
All that aside, Bisping believes Rockhold’s days of competing inside the the Octagon are over after he took his title and his soul.
“What is Luke Rockhold doing? When did he say he’s going to fight again? What are his plans? I do believe we are now almost in March. That fight was in June. I don’t know what happened there, but I think I took his soul,” said “The Count” during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour via MMA Fighting.
“I don’t think we’ll ever see Luke Rockhold again. I beat the shit out of him. I don’t know, I think he’s done. The way he went down, I think so. Why hasn’t he fought again? A lot of time has passed. If that were me, I would’ve been right back in there.”
Of course, Luke paints another picture, as he says he is far from done in the sport and is looking on returning to action in the coming months, eyeing a showdown and win against “Jacare” in an effort to earn his way back to a shot at reclaiming his title, preferably against Bisping.
Still, the fact that Luke has been traveling instead of fighting only shows the brash Brit that he really doesn’t want to be champion.
“So it’s not bad enough that he needs surgery, but he needs, what, he needs nine months to go travel the world and be a playboy?” Bisping asked. “That doesn’t sound like a man who wants to be champion again to me.”
Ironically enough, Bisping himself hasn’t been able to sign on the dotted line for a specific date for his title fight against Yoel Romero, as he is currently recovering from knee surgery.
Plus, he also hoping to land this fight, first.
