It was another crazy year for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the world's premiere mixed martial arts (MMA) organization. Not only was ZUFFA acquired by WME | IMG, some of the biggest stars in combat sports came and went.
And everything in between.
Newly-crowned lightweight titleholder Conor McGregor captured two belts with his victory at UFC 205, former division champions Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar failed drug tests before and after UFC 200, and former 135-pound queenpin Ronda Rousey came in like a lion and went out like a lamb at UFC 207.
Bananas.
In addition, Michael Bisping (middleweight), Amanda Nunes (women’s bantamweight), Tyron Woodley (welterweight), Cody Garbrandt (bantamweight), and Stipe Miocic (heavyweight) finished the year with championship gold.
With a year producing as many highs and lows as 2016, fans can only wonder what lies ahead in 2017 and beyond, especially when you consider the number of recent staff changes.
Happy New Year!
