Mr. Telephone Man, there’s something wrong with my line. When I dial Nick Diaz’s number, I get a “click” every time.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White is befuddled from the lack of response by former welterweight No. 1 contender Nick Diaz, who was expected to return to the Octagon at the end of 2016 ... but never did.
In fact, White and promotion matchmakers dangled a couple of carrots in front of the wily Stocktonite, including high-profile match ups against former nemesis Robbie Lawler and top contender Demian Maia.
The silence, according to his conversation on UFC Unfiltered, was deafening.
“I offered Nick Diaz the Lawler fight, and he turned it down. Lawler accepted the fight, and Nick turned it down, so I’m looking for something else for Lawler right now. They were terrorizing me, saying, ‘We want a fight.’ I got Robbie Lawler to accept the fight. I called (the Diaz camp), and they turned it down, and they’ve been radio silent on me ever since. I just reached out to them and said ‘what do you think about a fight against Demian Maia? And I haven’t heard back from them yet. If Nick doesn’t take it, I’ll give it to (Jorge) Masvidal.”
A week ago that might have sounded silly.
But then Masvidal went and proved just how dangerous he can be when he turns it loose, smashing and trashing the red-hot Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC on FOX 28 last Saturday night in Denver Colorado.
Relive the carnage here.
After the bout, “Gamebred” offered White a bounty for his next victim, which could end up being Lawler or Maia, depending on how quickly Diaz picks up the phone and resurrects his combat sports career.
Then again, he’s been kinda busy these days...
