Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz is finished serving his suspension from Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, is eager to resume his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.
So long as it’s not against Robbie Lawler.
“Apparently they offered Nick Diaz Robbie Lawler, and Nick passed on it,” UFC color commentator Joe Rogan said on a recent edition of his official podcast.
Diaz and Lawler first went to war at the UFC 47 pay-per-view (PPV) way back in early 2004, a contest Diaz won by flash knockout in the second round. Both fighters spent some time in Strikeforce later in their careers before finding their way back inside the Octagon.
Diaz (26-9, 2 NC) struggled with consistency while “Ruthless” (27-11, 1 NC) went on to capture the crown.
If and when these two ever hook ‘em up for a second time remains to be seen, but considering Lawler is ranked No. 2 in the division — and Diaz isn’t ranked at all — it’s a high risk, low reward bout for the former champ, who sounds game regardless.
Maybe Diaz is waiting for this guy?
