Mickey Gall is taking the mixed martial arts (MMA) world by the balls. While his recent first-round submission victory over former professional wrestler CM Punk at UFC 203 isn't going to launch him up the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight division, it has gained him massive notoriety around the sport. Gall has even used his new found popularity to challenge Sage Northcutt to a Hair vs. Hair matchup.
But just because the 24-year-old New Jersey native has used Punk's inexperience and well-known name to launch his green MMA career doesn't mean he lacks respect for the guy. Heck, Gall even came to Punk's rescue during a recent appearance on the Legion of Skanks podcast (h/t BJPenn.com), choking out the host, Luis J. Gomez, after he claimed to be tougher than the former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion (shown above at 5:20).
This can only be categorized as 16 seconds of MMA bliss. Gall gave Gomez full mount, reversed positioning, stepped into half guard and proceeded to lock in a nasty d'arce choke until the host tapped.
While Gall continues to teach inexperienced pedestrians a valuable lesson in real fighting, Punk included, he'll have to step up his game if he wants to climb the 170-pound ladder. But with vast grappling experience in his back pocket and UFC veteran Jim Miller in his ear, Gall may very well have a bright future in UFC.
