Anthony Johnson vs. Daniel Cormier? Not so fast.
Despite his emphatic win over Glover Teixeira in the UFC 202 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which took place last Sat. night (Aug. 20, 2016) in Las Vegas, Nevada, "Rumble" is not guaranteed a championship rematch against "DC" later this year.
That's because Jon Jones may be returning to mixed martial arts (MMA) much sooner than expected, depending on how well his penis pill defense holds up with Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). If that's the case, Johnson may get the "Bones" fight he was expecting (but didn't get) in May 2015.
"I'm in a weird place," White told UFC Unfiltered podcast with Matt Serra and Jim Norton (via MMA Junkie). "We saw that fight, and it was a great fight. I've still got to talk to (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva and see what he thinks. But I'm thinking maybe we do Anthony Johnson vs. Jon Jones to see who gets to fight Daniel Cormier."
Cormier submitted Johnson at UFC 187.
That news is unlikely to go over well with "Rumble," who like "DC," wants Jones to wait his turn after several years of shenanigans. His latest, a failed drug test ahead of UFC 200 back in July, sent Cormier into a feature fight against Anderson Silva.
Even without the title, it seems the light heavyweight division is at the mercy of "Bones."
