Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will induct its 2016 Hall of Fame class on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the UFC Fan Expo. The festivities get underway at 12 p.m. local time on the main stage theater (South Hall) at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event will also be streamed live (replay available on demand) via UFC Fight Pass.
The year's categories include:
Pioneer Era - Athletes who turned pro before November 17, 2000 (when unified rules of MMA were adopted), is a minimum age of 35 or has been retired for one year or more.
Modern Era - Athletes who turned pro on or after November 17, 2000 (when unified rules of MMA were adopted).
Contributors Wing - Recognizing significant contributions and accomplishments to the sport of mixed martial arts and UFC outside of the Octagon.
Fight Wing - Recognizing the most historic fights in the sport. To be eligible, fights will have taken place a minimum of five years before date of induction.
The class of 2016 will be announced in the weeks leading up to International Fight Week, anchored by the UFC 200: "Cormier vs. Jones 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event inside T-Mobile Arena on July 9, also in Las Vegas. Tickets are required for all Fan Expo activities (buy them here).
UFC recently announced plans to build a physical location for future ceremonies, which will also be able to flaunt memorabilia from the careers of the select mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters enshrined. Hopefully it will be next to the Ronda Rousey restaurant.
