It seems as if Nick Diaz isn’t the only one making peace with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
After an arbitration hearing last month, Jon Jones was suspended one year for failing a drug test prior to his scheduled showdown against Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 this past July.
Jones was set to appear in front of the NSAC later this month, however, he and his legal team have come to a settlement agreement with the commission which will keep him from having to face them.
Per the agreement via MMA Fighting, the former Light Heavyweight champion of the world will still serve his one-year suspension, which could see him back in action in July 2017 since the punishment is retroactive. However, he will not face further discipline or fines from the NSAC or United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA).
Jones denied any wrongdoing and blamed supplement pills designed to help with erectile dysfunction as the root of the failed test. He was last seen earning unanimous decision win over Ovince Saint-Preux earlier this year in his first fight back after a year-long suspension for legal troubles in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He didn’t look like his usual dominant self, probably because he got "blacked out drunk" a week before the fight. His words, not mine.
Nevertheless, it seems "Bones" is on the right path to his much-anticipated comeback. Still, the question remains whether or not he will receive headlining duties in his first fight back.
