It appears as if a very nasty staph infection (shown below) will knock Patrick Cummins out of his upcoming light heavyweight tilt with New York native Gian Villante at UFC Fight Night 102 on Dec. 9 from Albany, N.Y., as the 36-year-old wrestler recently took to Twitter to reveal the graphic news.
As fun as this staph infection was this week, I have to pull out of #UFCAlbany next week
— Patrick Cummins (@OfficialDurkin) December 2, 2016Yeah, I'm officially out of the fight," Cummins told MMA Fighting. "I got a really bad staph infection. I've been on IV antibiotics all week and got it drained a couple days ago. Bad timing!

"Yeah, I'm officially out of the fight," Cummins told MMA Fighting. "I got a really bad staph infection. I've been on IV antibiotics all week and got it drained a couple days ago. Bad timing!
"I'm hoping I'll be able to train in a couple weeks and get the fight rebooked a month or so after that."
Cummins has suffered two-straight knockout defeats to Brazilian sluggers Glover Teixeira and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. UFC Fight Night 102 was expected to be the Pennsylvanian's first fight on American soil since losing to Ovince Saint Preux at UFC on FOX 15 in New Jersey. He will now have to enter 2017 with just one win on his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) resume since December 2014.
UFC Fight Night 102 will be headlined by a heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis and Shamil Abdurakhimov.
