Before Eddie Alvarez defends his lightweight title against Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight kingpin Conor McGregor at the upcoming UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) Event on Nov. 12, 2016 in New York, let’s take a trip back to see how Eddie became king.
It all went down four months go at UFC Fight Night 90, as Alvarez took on then champion Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of the Fox Sports 1 event. And it didn’t take long for Alvarez -- the former Bellator 155-pound champion — to impose his will, taking it to the Brazilian bomber from the get-go.
And with just a little over a minute left, Alvarez unleashed some vicious strikes to put an end to "RDA’s" title reign, consequently signaling the beginning of his own.
His first challenge is a huge one, as McGregor has proven to be as tough as the come, even taking on and defeating "much bigger" men than him.
