Conor McGregor has risen to the top of the mixed martial arts (MMA) world in just three years, capturing the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight title and cashing BIG checks along the way.
But has he done it against the best MMA has to offer?
Not so, according to Eddie Alvarez, who downplayed Conor’s level of competition throughout his UFC run, including Nate Diaz, who "Notorious" claimed is "three times his size."
In Eddie’s view, that isn’t exactly a win Conor should be bragging about, seeing as how Diaz is nothing but a "subpar" lightweight who has been beaten by just about everybody in the division.
"The guys he’s picked to fight, these are subpar guys. Even Nate (Diaz) is a .500 lightweight," said Eddie during the UFC 205 media conference call (video replay here).
"Everybody in the lightweight division has beat Nate and he couldn’t He had trouble doing it. The guys he’s faced are nothing of the caliber of the fighter I am. He will see the night of the fight that, ‘shit, I have been going up against shitty opponents that have been good style matchups and this one is not and I’m fucked."
Conor did suffer a submission loss to Nate at UFC 196 (see it), but managed to get some revenge a few months later at UFC 202, winning the Welterweight bout via decision.
As far as Eddie last few wins, he’s only beaten four former champions in Anthony Pettis, Rafael dos Anjos, Gilbert Melendez and Bellator MMA’s Michael Chandler.
While we can compare resume’s until our faces turn blue, the time for all the chatter is nearing an end, as Alvarez will defend his title against McGregor in the main event of UFC 205, which is set to go down on Nov. 12, 2016 in New York.
