Sorry, Demian Maia, but it seems if you want a crack at the Welterweight strap, you’re going to have to wait a while, as Dana White revealed during the post-fight presser (see it here), that he will likely book a rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson.
That’s because the duo fought to a majority draw in the co-main event of UFC 205 (video highlights) -- which went down last night (Sat., Nov. 12, 2016) inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.
"You rematch them," White during the post-fight press conference via MMA Junkie. "It was a draw, and the fight was ridiculous. It was a ‘Fight of the Night.’ Do it again."
The Welterweight title fight won "Fight of the Night" honors, and since fans seemed to be pleased with the bout an there wasn’t a clear-cut victor, booking them to tango once again seems like the logical step.
As for Yoel Romero, who had an impressive victory over Chris Weidman (see it) in "The Empire State," he earned himself a shot at Michael Bisping’s Middleweight belt. Romero and Bisping had somewhat of an interaction during Romero’s post-fight speech, with "The Count" giving "Soldier of God" the bird as a sign if his disapproval.
"I didn’t see that (interaction between them), but yeah, that’s the fight that makes sense," White said. "He beat Chris Weidman tonight. I don’t know when, but that’s the fight."
Indeed, having won all eight of his fights inside the Octagon with zero losses to his credit, Romero is without a doubt the more-deserving 185-pound contender at the moment.
