Two former world Heavyweight champions are set to run it back one more time, as Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum will long horns again when they duke it out at UFC 207 on Dec. 30, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Veteran oddsmaker Joey Odessa tells MMA Junkie that the opening lines have Cain pegged as a -175 favorite while "Vai Cavalo" comes in as a +145 underdog.
While Werdum initially defeated Cain via submission at UFC 188, Odessa lays out the reasoning behind pegging Velasquez the favorite.
"The Cain Velasquez -175 price gives merit to the excuses for his loss to Werdum in Mexico City. The altitude, layoff and lack of preparation were all factors taken into account in the pricing of the rematch. A healthy Cain Velasquez should avenge the second loss of his UFC career and line himself up for a title shot against current champ Stipe Miocic. If recent history or statistics are any indication of what will happen in Las Vegas, they would appear to favor Cain Velasquez. In rematches, Cain has avenged the only other loss of his UFC career, against Junior Dos Santos – not just one, but two times, while looking even more impressive in each outing. Velasquez entered the second of the three bouts as an underdog, and in the trilogy as about a 2-1 favorite. Dos Santos does own a victory over Fabricio Werdum, but it spans nearly a decade ago at UFC 90 in 2008."
Both men returned to the win column by taking out the same foe, as Cain defeated Travis Browne via first-round technical knockout at UFC 200, while Werdum took out "Hapa" for a second time at UFC 203 just two months later.
Now, the big men will fight for a chance to reclaimed the 265-pound strap against current division kingpin, Stipe Miocic.
UFC 207 will feature a women’s Bantamweight title fight between division champion Amanda Nunes taking on Ronda Rousey.
