Whatever low point former UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey may have been feeling immediately following her loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, the mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar seems to have bounced back.
Waking up and realizing she's still rich and famous likely helped. A lot.
Rousey's fame has landed her the first ever appearance by an MMA fighter on the cult television show Saturday Night Live (SNL), set to air tomorrow night (Jan. 23, 2016). You can see a preview in the above video with Selena Gomez and Cecily Strong (unless you're Canadian, in which case you're straight out of luck).
"Extra's" AJ Calloway spoke with Rousey about her upcoming live TV role, telling him that although she's nervous about it she feels good.
"Nerves help me to focus and do better."
There's quite a bit of buzz surrounding Rousey and former SNL actress Tina Fey over news Universal Studios will create a film called Do Nothing Bitches starring the two women. Rousey coined the term "Do Nothing Bitch" during a filming of UFC Embedded.
Of course, any interview with Rousey wouldn't be complete (or relevant for MMAmania.com) without a question about her next fight. When Calloway asked her when fans could expect her to return to fighting, Rousey gave a somewhat ambiguous answer.
"I'm kind of overlapping the two of them right now because I don't want to finish one and have to start at zero. Because that's what I had to do after the Olympics. I had an Olympic medal and I had to start from zero all over again and I really learned from that as much as I could and I don't want to be put in that position again."
If Rousey doesn't return to MMA she wouldn't be the first female fighter lured away by the lights of Hollywood. Former featherweight champion Gina Carano retired from MMA after getting smashed by Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino in 2009, also just her first loss of her MMA career.
The two have been compared numerous times in their careers, with some suggesting Rousey will pull a Carano and disappear for good, while others have suggested it's a ridiculous idea.
The good news for UFC fans is that her absence won't be holding up the fate of the women's bantamweight division as originally believed, with Holm taking on Miesha Tate for the belt at UFC 197.
If I was a betting man (and I'm not because I'm a DNB) I'd lean toward Rousey coming back. She seems to have too much fire in her belly to walk away from a loss like the one she suffered against Holm. Agree or disagree? Let me know by spamming the comment section with gifs.
