Out of action since his UFC 167 technical knockout victory over Chael Sonnen back in November of 2013, former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans is targeting a return to the Octagon in September and even has an opponent in mind.
Ryan Bader.
As reported on Wednesday night's edition of UFC Tonight, Evans, 35, wants the The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Season 8 winner as his next opponent. The two fighters are currently tied at No. 3 in the current UFC light heavyweight rankings (see them here).
Many thought Bader would fight Daniel Cormier for the 205-pound title, especially after their altercation at the UFC 187 post-fight press conference (watch it), but it was also announced on UFC Tonight by UFC President Dana White that Cormier would instead be facing Alexander Gustafsson (details).
Bader has won four fights in a row, with his last victory coming by way of split decision over Phil Davis at UFC on FOX 14 back in January.
"Suga" has won his last two fights and was scheduled to face Cormier at UFC 170 way back in February of 2014, prior to injuring his knee and withdrawing from the bout. This past February, he needed an additional surgery, which has prolonged his return.
In addition to his recuperation, Evans has continued to appear on FOX Sports 1 as an analyst and is also in the current season of TUF 21 helping his team, The Blackzilians, against rival gym American Top Team (ATT).
