Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently tied a ribbon around its UFC Fight Night 70 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which took place last Saturday night (June 27, 2015) inside Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
In the FOX Sports 1 main event, Lyoto Machida was elbowed into oblivion by surging middleweight contender Yoel Romero (watch it), and the Florida State Athletic Commission wants the Brazilian sidelined until a doctor can clear him for possible head trauma.
It's been a rough couple of weeks for "The Dragon," and he'll be joined on the suspensions sideline by UFC featherweight standout Hacran Dias, who may have mucked up his right foot by using it to repeatedly kick UFC sophomore Levan Makashvili.
That's not all.
Here is the complete list of UFC Fight Night 70 injuries and medical suspensions (via MMA Junkie):
Lyoto Machida: Suspended indefinitely until receiving medical clearance for possible head and ENT injuries
Santiago Ponzinibbio: Suspended 30 days for precautionary reasons
Eddie Gordon: Suspended 30 days due to a nose abrasion
Steve Bosse: Suspended 90 days for precautionary reasons
Hacran Dias: Suspended indefinitely until receiving medical clearance for possible right-foot injury
Lewis Gonzales: Suspended 30 days due to a right-eyebrow laceration
Steve Montgomery: Suspended 30 days for precautionary reasons
Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
