Many boxing fans were aghast at the cost of the upcoming Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao boxing pay-per-view (PPV), scheduled for this Saturday night (May 2) inside MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada (details), because it carries a price tag of close to $100 to watch in high definition.
Time to turn that frown upside down.
Fans willing to buy (and presumably drink) lots of beer are entitled to a special PPV rebate, as much as $50 with the purchase of three 18-packs of suds.
Sorry, don't hit those craft beer aisles just yet.
The rebate is offered by Tecate, which in addition to having some gorgeous supermodels, also pumps out popular pale lagers named after the city in Baja California, Mexico, where they were first produced in 1943 (thanks, Wiki). The beer giant paid a whopping $5.6 million to sponsor this weekend's fight.
"We know consumers react well to the mail-in rebates," Tecate brand director Gustavo Guerra told ESPN.com. "And now here's a fight where the pay-per-view is going to be $100. It is expensive, and this will be very attractive for consumers."
The rebate is attractive ... but how about the prospect of guzzling down some Tecate or Tecate light?
Anyone?
