Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White is usually not one to be lost for words, but after so many outstanding performances in New Jersey last night (Sat., April 18, 2015) for the UFC on FOX 15: "Machida vs Rockhold" event live from the Prudential Center, the boss man could only find so many superlatives to describe the electric evening.
"She's got it."
That about sums up White's thoughts on Paige VanZant, who absolutely beat down Felice Herrig on the main card last night (highlights here). "12 Gauge" once again proved to be a budding superstar, with the entire mixed martial arts (MMA) community buzzing over her incredible victory.
White went so far as to compare the strawweight's meteoric rise to stardom with Conor McGregor's journey.
His words to Heidi Androl of FOX Sports, courtesy of MMA Fighting:
"It's almost like the Conor McGregor thing. The guy bursts out of nowhere, explodes onto the scene and backs it up. And Paige VanZant did tonight, too. She looked unbelievable. And she is. She's one of those people that has that thing."
"For instance, back in my room tonight everyone wanted to meet Paige VanZant. Out of all the people that fought on this card tonight, everybody wanted to meet Paige VanZant."
"The Notorious" one was granted a main event slot in only his third UFC fight, so could "12 Gauge" follow in his footsteps?
In reality, probably not. But more importantly, VanZant's second straight win in the brand new 115-pound division gives the 21-year old a huge opportunity to fight for UFC gold by the end of 2015.
