Former two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title contender, Chael Sonnen, will return to action on May 6, 2015, when he faces off against Renato Sobral at Metamoris 6 in Los Angeles, California.
Sherdog confirmed the news with Metamoris officials earlier today (March 4, 2015)
This will be the second time the two go toe-to-toe, as they initially met at UFC 55 back in 2005, with "Babalu" coming out on top after forcing "American Gangster" to tap in round two thanks to an air-tight triangle choke.
Sonnen got his feet wet in the all-grappling event back at Metamoris 4 last year, getting submitted by Andre Galvao in the main event of the evening (recap). As for Sobral, he fought to a draw against one of the best submission wizards in the world, Dean Lister, at Metamoris 3.
He is expected to return to MMA action after self-imposed MMA retirement against Volkan 'Cousin' Oezdemir on April 11, 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland (more details here).
Now, Sonnen will look to even it up against the former UFC light heavyweight title contender when they meet in the center of the mat this summer; however, a location for the event has yet to be determined.
Sonnen seems to be doing quite well for himself since getting the boot from UFC and FOX in 2014. Aside from building a good relationship with Metamoris, "American Gangster" also serves as an MMA analyst for ESPN.
He might want to stop getting submitted at jiu-jitsu tournaments, though.
