Chris Weidman will defend his middleweight title against Luke Rockhold in the co-main event of this weekend's (Sat., Dec. 12, 2015) stacked UFC 194 pay-per-view (PPV) event in what many are calling the toughest fight of his career.
It's an echoing statement that "All American" has heard prior to his last four fights. And just like in his previous wins, people will somehow find a way to downplay his victory should he obtain it.
He breaks it down to MMA Noise:
"It's a great fight to kind of showcase my skills and show my superiority on another level and just kind of continue dominating the division. And the thing is, you say great things about Luke right now, they were saying that about every guy I fought. Vitor Belfort, he's the guy to beat me. Lyoto Machida, he's the guy to beat me. All of these guys were on heavy streaks when I fought them, Anderson Silva, obviously. And after I beat Luke, they are going to say he sucks, too. And there's a reason (why he lost), that he's never fought a wrestler before, he's inexperienced, too slow, he wasn't ready, he was injured. There is going to be a reason why Luke sucks and it sucks for him that they are going to put him down like that, but that's the way it's going to be. I have a great fan base, but no matter what, there are still going to be doubters."
Haters gonna hate, and all that.
Weidman made it a habit to silence his doubters by putting on one impressive performance after another. But if he can somehow back up the words of his trainer Ray Longo, who predicted an early knockout of the former Strikeforce 185-pound champion, the doubts should come to an end once and for all.
Right?
