"Oh it's true. It's damn true!"
That's not just Kurt Angle's signature catch phrase in professional wrestling, it's the title of Bellator MMA's announcement earlier this afternoon that the former Olympic gold medal-winner will make an appearance for the promotion.
The glory days of pure sports competition for Angle, 46, are nearly two decades removed. Angle famously captured a freestyle wrestling gold medal at the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta, Ga., despite suffering two fractured vertebrae and two herniated discs in training.
After his quest for Olympic gold ended, Angle brought his renowned drive and athleticism to the scripted world of sports entertainment, where he has "won" numerous world titles for both World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and rival promotion Total Nonstop Action (TNA).
He often flirted with a move to mixed martial arts (MMA) -- even suggested a fight against Kimbo Slice was once in the works with UFC (read more on that here) -- but he never made the jump.
Instead, Angle will attend the upcoming Bellator 145 "Fan Fest," which is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2015, at Dave & Buster's in Maryland Heights, Mo., as a special guest. The event is exclusive to Bellator Nation members, but membership is free to join.
Bellator MMA previously announced Slice, Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz, among others, as special guests for the event (full details here), which begins at 7 p.m. local time. The special guests will sign autographs and pose for photos.
