With a potential Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight title shot on the line, top contenders Miesha Tate and Sara McMann put on a show Saturday night (Jan. 31, 2015) in the "Prelims" main event of UFC 183, which took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (full recap here).
In the end, "Cupcake" came from behind to earn a huge majority decision victory over the former Olympic silver medalist.
After a first round that saw McMann nearly knockout Tate in the first minute and dominate her on the mat for the remainder of the round, "Cupcake" flipped the script late in the second, as she nearly submitted the former Olympian with a deep guillotine. In round three, the former Strikeforce champion took control, making McMann pay as she reversed her fellow former No. 1 contender on a throw early on in the round, en route to dominant top control and ground and pound for the final four minutes.
Tate has now won three fights in a row, and she just may have earned another crack at Ronda Rousey -- or a rematch with Cat Zingano -- after her victory over McMann on Saturday night.
