We knew it was happening, now we know when.
Kinda-sorta.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will ask Jon Jones to defend his light heavyweight title against surging division No. 1 contender Anthony Johnson this spring, after "Rumble" punched his ticket -- by punching Alexander Gustafsson -- just last week in Stockholm, Sweden.
"We're looking to do that fight in May," White told Jim Rome (via FOX Sports). "I don't have the exact date, but May."
Jones jumped out to an early betting favorite.
While White was elusive when pinned down for an exact date, the Memorial Day Weekend annual extravaganza would make the most sense. After all, there's only one pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for that month and it's UFC 187 on May 23 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The other three are all "Fight Night" branded events on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass (see the full schedule here).
Nothing is official at this time and contracts have yet to be signed, but you can bet "Bones" will be in a big hurry to get back inside the Octagon, which will undoubtedly help distance him from this recent debacle.
