Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White recently suggested the much-anticipated featherweight title fight between division kingpin Jose Aldo, and No. 1 contender Conor McGregor, would take place at UFC 187 on May 24, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Not so fast.
According to statements head trainer John Kavanagh made to NewsTalk Breakfast (via MMA Fighting), McGregor and Aldo will likely square off inside the Octagon later in the summer.
"It's not 100 percent yet. There was talk of a May date. It may now actually be later in the year. I get a lot of tweets and messages, people wanting to book their flights. I would just say hold on, hold on until the UFC officially announces. But it does look like it'll be later in the year."
A potential date could very well be Fourth of July Weekend, as this blockbuster title fight could be a prefect addition to International Fight Week, which goes down from July 7-12 in "Sin City."
Perhaps there is no better way to end the action-filled week -- which includes tons of activities such as UFC sponsored pool parties, concerts and the fan expo -- than to have the title fight headline UFC 189, which goes down on Saturday, July 11, 2015.
It's all about getting more bang for the buck.
Of course, that's just my suggestion, so keep it tuned to MMAmania.com as we'll make sure to pass along the official date and venue as soon as it's confirmed.
