Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is gearing up for its second pay-per-view (PPV) event of the New Year, as the world's largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion will stay put in Las Vegas, Nevada, to stage UFC 183, live from MGM Grand Garden Arena on Jan. 31, 2015.
The event will feature a much-anticipated middleweight bout pitting former division kingpin, Anderson Silva, against former two-time No. 1 welterweight contender, Nick Diaz.
Naturally, a big fight like that deserves a highly-experienced official to oversee the action, so Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has tasked "Big" John McCarthy with the officiating duties.
FOX Sports brought word of the news, which was made official earlier today (Mon. Jan 12, 2015) during a hearing in "Sin City."
Also, Sal D'Amato, Marcos Rosales and Glenn Trowbridge -- three men who are no strangers to judging high-profile fights -- have been assigned as judges for the highly-anticipated "super fight" between "Spider" and the Stockton slugger.
UFC 183 will also feature a co-main event that will see Kelvin Gastelum try to continue his climb up the 170-pound ladder as he takes on his toughest opponent to date, Tyron Woodley.
Elsewhere on the card, Thiago Alves faces Jordan Mein, while Miesha Tate faces Sara McMann in the headlining bout of the "Prelims" portion of the PPV event.
