Friday night fights!
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to action this Friday night (Sept. 5, 2014) with a FOX Sports 1-televised event that features an important middleweight headliner between top-10 standouts Ronaldo Souza and Gegard Mousasi, in a rematch from their 2008 championship fight in DREAM.
The UFC Fight Night 50 action, which will take place inside Foxwoods Resort Casino on Mashantucket Reservation in Ledyard, Connecticut, will begin at 7 p.m. ET with a six-fight "Prelims" broadcast that will air live on FOX Sports 1, before moving on to the remainder of main card match ups, also on FOX Sports 1.
And Fight Pass for you Canadians.
In addition to the headliner, longtime heavyweight veterans Alistair Overeem and Ben Rothwell will bang it out for a spot in the 265-pound title hunt, while Joe Lauzon looks to rack up yet another post-fight bonus against the venerable Mike Chiesa.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 50 PLAY-BY-PLAY:
Gegard Mousasi vs. Ronaldo Souza
Round 1: Feeling out process here for a good 40 seconds before Jacare dove for a takedown that wasn't there. Much better TD attempt here, but Sassy still stuffs it. Clinching now and Souza is working for a trip that he can't get. Jacare with a short left and they're trading knees to the legs. Underhooks for the Brazilian. Mousasi with a couple elbows, but that lets Jacare get the takedown. Half guard. Knees to the body from Gator. Moose keeping Jacare from dealing serious damage. Mousasi with a triangle and a few upkicks that back Jacare off, but he manages to get back down into half guard. Jacare with an elbow. Moose with one from bottom. Couple of hammerfists land for the Brazilian and he passes to side. He threatens a kimura, but with only 15 seconds left, Sassy will defend it.
10-9 Souza
Round 2: Jab from Saucy and a right. Jacare with a left, but he misses wildly with a right. They both start throwing and Jacare is landing the better shots here. Souza with a headkick. Mousasi clinches to end the barrage and pushes Ronaldo up to the cage. Thai plumm from Jacare and he gets hit with an uppercut before landing a knee. Jacare reverses positions and ducks down for a double. The Armenian defends for a bit, but Souza powers him down. Couple of punches from Jacare, but Mousasi gets in a nice elbow. Kimura attempt and a pass from Jacare. They scramble and Jacare gets in a hammerfist before retaining the position. Jacare passes to side and is working for another kimura. Minute to go here and Sassy looks like he's gonna keep his arm, but lose another round. North-south position... but there's the buzzer and we're off to another round.
10-9 Souza
Round 3: Mousasi with a good right and a jab to open up. Moose Sauce with a pair of jabs and a nice right. Jacare closes the distance and starts throwing from the pocket. Sassy is able to get his back off the fence and they're still standing. Overhand from Jacare. Left and a takedown from Jacare. Mousasi tries to stand and does. Dirty boxing from the Armenian and he breaks away. Lead right from the Dreamcatcher. Jacare tries for a double against the cage and eats a pair of Browne-style elbows. He gets the inside trip and is on top in Mousasi's butterfly guard. Mousasi pushes him back, but Gator pushes back into guard with some rights. The pace has slowed tremendously. Guillotine attempt here from Jacare... he rolls to guard and GETS THE TAP!
Final result: Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza defeats Gegard Mousasi by submission (guillotine) at 4:30 of round 3

Alistair Overeem vs. Ben Rothwell
Round 1: Let's see if the refs can take another fight off. Rothwell with his hands out, zombie like. Overeem cracks him around the guard with a right, then an oblique kick. Step in knee from Reem and the same shin/oblique kick. One way traffic so far a minute into the bout. That front knee/shin/oblique/etc kick is landing hard on the knee of the heavy-stanced Rothwell. Rothwell with a nice uppercut that wobbles Overeem, but he ties up Ben and recovers. Overeem is down and Rothwell pounces! A short right to the temple sent Reem crashing down and Big Ben is raining down the GNO. The ref steps in after about six unanswered rights and we've got a hell of an upset to behold!
Final result: Ben Rothwell defeats Alistair Overeem via TKO (punches) at 2:19 of round 1

Derrick Lewis vs. Matt Mitrione
Round 1: Mitrione walking Lewis back to the cage. Wow. They collide right hands and Lewis goes down. "Meathead" is pounding away and Mario Yamasaki lets Lewis try and get to his senses, but Mittrione bullies him down and lands a big right that makes Lewis go limp briefly. That's enough to elicit the stoppage.
Final result: Matt Mitrione defeats Derrick Lewis via TKO (strikes) at 0:41 of round 1

Michael Chiesa vs. Joe Lauzon
Round 1: Lauzon catches a lazy body kick from Chiesa and takes Mike down. Lauzon with a body lock, but Chiesa stands. Chiesa breaks the grip, but eats an uppercut to the ribs. Knee from Chiesa and a right. Chiesa feints, but ends up doing not much. He gets in a right finally. Lauzon bulls forward into the clinch and has an over/under. Chiesa scoots his hips back and reverses Joe. Knees to the body from Chiesa. Chiesa gets the trip and tries to sink his hooks into Joe. Joe spins and is facing Chiesa. He's got back mount and is working hard to open up Chiesa with strikes. Lauzon's legs are getting a bit loose as they struggle. Joe punching away in between fishing for the rear naked. Lauzon lets go of the backmount and is firing punches back and forth. Chiesa gets his wits about him and now he's throwing a bunch everywhere. He nearly gets the back!
10-9 Lauzon
Round 2: Left from Chiesa to open. Good body kick, too, but Lauzon lands a left. Right From Mike. Left knee from Chiesa. Lauzon with a 1-2 and Chiesa clinches to end that. Lauzon baits the knee from Chiesa and catches it. He takes Mike down and is throwing on top of Chiesa. Chiesa trying to roll out, and Joe has a Kimura attempt on... nope, Michael rolls out from it and they're up. Joe is standing and throwing dozens of strikes. Couple of nice body punches and Chiesa is reeling. Clinch knees and Chiesa is bleeding. Chiesa gets a second wind and starts flurrying back against Joe. Lauzon covers up and they are back standing. Dean quickly jumps in to look at the cut on Chiesa's face and Lauzon raises his hands immediately. The doctor comes in and looks at the trench carved into the eyebrow of Chiesa and instantaneously calls the match. Chiesa is pissed, but I've seen canyons smaller than that.
Final result: Joe Lauon defeats Michael Chiesa by TKO (cut) at 2:14

John Moraga vs. Justin Scoggins
Round 1: Scoggins comes racing forward and hits a high kick. Lots of kicking from all angles for Scoggins. Moraga zips forward with a right, but Scoggins is nowhere to be found as he ducked down and got the takedown. Moraga threatens a guillotine, but Scoggins pressures the head away and pops his own free. Moraga with a good elbow from the bottom. Scoggins tries to pass to half and eventually does. Back to full. Elbow from Scoggins. Make that two. Half guard. Nice hammerfist from Justin. Side control. Mount. Moraga bucks out of that and into another guillotine. Scoggins bounces out of it. Moraga tries to stand and Scoggins gets one hook in. He loses it and they're up. Scoggins with a side kick that catches Moraga off balance. Takedown attempt from Scoggins is successful and he avoids the guillotine with 12 seconds left to go.

Round 2: Spinning kick from Scoggins. Moraga is getting soundly outwrestled as he gets taken down again. Moraga tries another guillotine that looks like it's not going to be successful, but he gets the tap!
Final result: John Moraga defeats Justin Scoggins via submission (guillotine) at 0:47 of round 2

Al Iaquinta vs. Rodrigo Damm
Round 1: Damm misses a wheel kick. Damm gets in a head kick, and Al retaliates with a punch that backs up Damm. The Brazilian is swinging big and occasionally landing. Iaquinta has been landing solid leg kicks throughout the fight. Nice left from "Raging" Al. Damm tries a takedown and Al stuffs it. Al with a big right that stumbles Damm. Damm with a hook near the buzzer.
10-9 Iaquinta
Round 2: Right from Damm has Al backing up a bit. 1-1-2 from Iaquinta. Huge left from Al lands and Damm weathers it well, but it sure checked his chin. Damm tries a takedown, but can't takedown the wrestler. Another solid left from Iaquinta gets in. Damm gets a right, Al answers with a left. Al slips a 3-2 from Rodrigo. Damm with a couple of jabs. Al cracks Damm with a left high kick. No hospital or cemetery, but it puts Damm on the backpedal. Single leg from Damm and Iaquinta is completely unconcerned with the attempts of Damm to take him down.
10-9 Iaquinta
Round 3: Damm gets in a right, but eats a liver kick at the same time. Nice body punch from the Long Islander, too. Oh jeez, Damm gets absolutely blasted by Iaquinta and is near out on his feet, now on his butt. Al doesn't follow him down and tries for the walk-off, but Natal isn't out and Herb Dean tells Damm to get to his feet. Damm doesn't really want to and Herb nearly calls the fight, but Damm climbs up and starts going berserk, trying to get the Hail Mary win. He cracks Al a couple of times, but Al manages to recover his wits and starts unloading on Rodrigo Rodrigo goes down with an elbow and Dean mercifully saves him this time.
Final result: Al Iaquinta defeats Rodrigo Damm by TKO (strikes) at 2:41 of round 3

Chris Camozzi vs. Rafael Natal
Round 1: Nice jab and a low kick from Chris. Both men get low kicks checked. Natal with a pair of body blows. Camozzi with a heavy inside leg kick. Quiet crowd here. Natal land a nice punch and that seems to make Camozzi mad - he plows forward cracking Natal with three rights as Natal is on his bike, trying to get away from the fence. Outside leg kick from Camozzi gets caught and Natal tries for a single. Stuffed. Natal powers straight into Chris with a couple of punches including a left that lands clean and he ducks under to try and get the takedown. Camozzi fends it off into a clinch. Rafael with a solid right on the break. Natal launches a huge overhand that misses, but he follows it up straight into a successful takedown. Camozzi tries to stand, and does, but not without the Brazilian taking his back. Natal manages to lose the position as Chris breaks the handgrip of Natal and turns into him. Camozzi with double underhooks, but Natal swims and gets out. They come together again and Camozzi tries for a guillotine, but can't get it and bails early. Another good inside leg kick for Camozzi.
10-10 round
Round 2: Natal swinging wild and Camozzi is able to avoid getting hit. Slashing inside leg kick from "Sapo". Camozzi prevents another takedown attempt. Camozzi attempting to corner Natal and clinches him up to the cage. Left elbow on the separation. Rafael catches a leg kick or a knee attempt and gets the takedown. Camozzi standing within seconds and has faced... make that turned Natal into the cage. Nothing happening here and they finally break. Another big miss from Natal. Another two takedown attempts stuffed. Elbow into a clinch from the American. Question mark kick from Camozzi to end the round.
10-9 Camozzi
Round 3: Both men's corners think that the other is done. I tend to side with Camozzi's, to be honest. They trade inside leg kicks again. Chris with a nice step-back right as Natal waded in. Another broken takedown attempt. Camozzi backs Natal into the cage and lands a few punches before clinching Natal. Break. Another stuffed takedown and Camozzi gets in a nice left. More strikes landing for Chris here. Natal trying hard for this takedown, but Camozzi keeps his hips back all the way into the opposite fencing. Chris reverses with a guillotine attempt. Knee. Liver kick and a left from Camozzi. Natal trying for a body clinch, can't get it. Uppercut from Camozzi and Natal is eating everything now, looking worse for the wear due to it. Camozzi kinda stalling this out here. Right from Natal. Right from Camozzi.

Chris Beal vs. Tateki Matsuda
Round 1: Matsuda starts with a pair of low kicks. Left hand by Matsuda. Low kick, Beal counters with a right hand that causes Matsuda to slip to the mat. Matsuda looking to rise with an underhook. One minute in. Beal on top in half guard. Matsuda reverses into top half guard, but Beal wraps up a guillotine. Matsuda gets free after a brief struggle. Two minutes in. Beal tries to bridge unsuccessfully. Mtasuda into side control. Brief crucifix for Tateki. Short punches and elbows. Beal rolls to his feet and rocks Matsuda as they get to their feet. Matsuda stays standing and they move to center cage. Body kick from a badly cut Matsuda. Two minutes to go.
Yamasaki pauses the fight to take a look at Matsuda's cut; it's above his left eye, but off-center enough for the fight to continue. Good counter right from Matsuda, Beal whacks him with a knee to the body. Matsuda low kick. Uppercuts by Beal as Matsuda changes levels. One minute to go. good low kick by Tateki. Beal with a right hand, follow-up hooks do not connect. Matsuda with another low kick, the next one checked. Another leg kick lands. High kick blocked. Counter right from Matsuda. Round ends, 10-9 Matsuda.
Round 2: Matsuda flicks out kicks to start. High kick blocked. Low kick connects. Beal cracks him with a counter flurry. Another low kick. Beal lands a good knee as Matsuda changes levels and they move to the fence in the clinch. Quick exit. Leg kick by Matsuda; these seem to be troubling Beal. One minute in. Hard right hand from Matsuda. Leg kick checked. Another right hand by Matsuda connects. Beal lands a long straight of his own. Beal comes up short with a combo. Matsuda low kick blocked. Two minutes in. 1-2 by Beal. Low kick from Matsuda. Beal flurries after avoiding a counter right, lands a few. Matsuda low kick. High kick just misses. Matsuda counter right lands. High kick blocked. Two minutes to go.
Both miss with right hands. Matsuda body kick. Then with the other leg. Beal right hand and a hard short right. 3-2 inside. Beal's nose is bloodied. Matsuda grabs a rear waistlock and takes Beal down, but Beal takes mount with a minute to go. Elbows by Beal. Matsuda regains half guard. Good elbows from Beal. Matsuda standup attempt thwarted. Beal stands over him and drops punches until the bell. 10-9 Beal.
Round 3: Matsuda opens with a leg kick. Another. Beal teases a takedown attempt, doesn't get it but lands a knee upstairs. Matsuda 1-2. Low kick lands. Exchanges in close, no clean connections. Matsuda gets the body lock, but Beal throws him down against the fence. One minute in. Matsuda makes room, but Beal jumps on his back. Now mount for Beal. Hard punches from Beal. Matsuda regains guard. Matsuda uses the cage to reverse position and get in on Beal's hips. Two minutes in. Beal hits the switch and takes top position again. Half guard. Now full. Beal hops back into half and drops elbows. Two minutes to go.
Beal hops into mount and drops some heavy punches. Matsuda regains full guard. Matsuda throwing his legs up to no avail. One minute to go. Short left hands by Beal. Matsuda gives up his back and rises to his feet. Beal slams him down from the rear waistlock. Good knee when Matsuda stands. Matsuda shoots in on him against the cage and Beal separates before the bell. 10-9 Beal.
Final result: Beal def. Matsuda by unanimous decision

Sean Soriano vs. Chas Skelly
Round 1: Skelly with a front kick and moves into the clinch. Soriano defending well, avoids a foot sweep as they go to the fence. Soriano now pressing Skelly against the cage. Knee to the body. Skelly manages to drag him down into side control. Soriano gives up his back scrambling to his feet. Soriano has his back standing with one hook in. One minute in. Skelly releases the hook, then re-applies it. He tries to use the cage to get the other hook in, unsuccessful. Soriano controlling a wrist. Skelly drags him down. Two minutes in. Soriano rolls but can't dislodge him. The next roll puts him in Skelly's guard. Elbows by Soriano. He postures up and lands punches. Skelly attacks the lag, is too low to threaten. He briefly teases a calf slicer before taking Soriano's back again. Two minutes to go.
Body triangle from Skelly. Skelly working to get it under the chin, but Soriano defending the hands well. Minute to go. Skelly swats him with short punches. Skelly locks up the grip on Soriano's chin, but loses it and Soriano reverses into top position before the bell. 10-9 Skelly.
Round 2: Good combination by Soriano, capped by a left hook. Another left hand connects. Low kick. Skelly tries to wade into the clinch, shoots from too far out and gets clocked when he stands up. Soriano ducks an elbow and shucks off a clinch attempt. Body shot and low kick from Soriano. They clinch and Skelly hits an outside trip, but a knee to Soriano's groin prompts a pause in the action. One minute in. They restart on the ground, Skelly on top in half guard. Skelly takes his back with impressive fluidity when Soriano tries to make space. Seatbelt control. Two minutes in. Skelly gets one hook in and squeezes on the chin. Skelly lets go and gets his second hook in. Two minutes to go, Skelly still on top.
Skelly looking to flatten him out. Soriano rolls and Skelly drops some punches from mount. Soriano alternating between giving up back and mount and Skelly dropping punches. Skelly locks up the RNC with just over a minute left. Soriano survives and Skelly returns to dropping punches. Skelly softens him up until the bell. 10-9 Skelly.
Round 3: Skelly wades in with slow punches, shoots in and gets sprawled on. Soriano with a body shot-low kick combo. 1-2 by Soriano. Skelly is visibly fatigued. Skelly whacks him with a right hand and gets in on a leg against the cage. Soriano with a couple Browne elbows. Skelly drags him to the mat and again takes the back. One minute in. Both hooks in. Skelly back to fishing for the RNC. Nothing there so far but he gets the body triangle. Skelly tries to attack a leg. Soriano brings him down and is just about in top position. Two minutes in. Soriano on top in closed guard. Elbows from Sean. Soriano drops occasional GnP until Skelly latches onto an arm with two minutes to go.
Soriano extricates his arm and Skelly moves to attack a leg. Skelly makes his way into top position, taking side control. Mount for Skelly. One minute to go. Back control once again. Body triangle. Skelly ends the fight dropping shots from mount. 10-9 Skelly.
Final result: Skelly def. Soriano by unanimous decision
