Why is Rin Nakai so huge?
Because the budding bantamweight -- who could probably make flyweight standing just 5'1" -- started eating (a lot) and lifting weights (a lot). But as far as the purpose for her bulky physique, she just did it because her coach, Kancho Usami, told her to.
Talk about loyalty!
Nakai breaks it down for Roxanne Modafferi at MMA Sucka:
Five fights into her career, she suddenly disappeared from the MMA radar for two years. She reappeared having gained fifteen pounds of muscle, and began competing in open-weight or bantamweight divisions. She described eating and lifting constantly. "My coach Kancho Usami instructed me to," she said.
Now, after accumulating a record of 16-0, she is signed to the UFC. "This is the biggest challenge of my life!" she said. "It's overwhelming, but I'll do my best."
What does she think of her opponent Miesha Tate? "She's beautiful and sexy," Rin said.
No argument here.
Nakai fights "Cupcake" at UFC Fight Night 52 on Fight Pass, which is scheduled for Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, on Sept. 20, 2014. While it's a fairly stiff test for the Japanese debutante, she does have a 16-0-1 record with wins over notable names such as Sarah D'Alelio and Tara LaRosa, among others.
