Mark Hunt recently sent fight fans into a bit of a frenzy after he published a cryptic tweet implying that he was no longer employed by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
After Dana White put an end to the panic by confirming that "Super Samoan" had not been cut, Hunt went on to blame a lack of carbs for his sporadic tweet.
Now, fans can rejoice as they can look forward to seeing the heavy-handed heavyweight inside the Octagon for a few more fights, as he revealed to UFC Tonight that he had inked a new six-fight deal with the Las Vegas, Nevada - based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.
Upon completing his contracted bouts, the 10-year MMA veteran -- which includes a two-year run in PRIDE -- will call it a career, as he plans on retiring from combat sports. No word if that also includes kickboxing, the sport Hunt competed and thrived in for years before getting into cagefighting.
In total, Hunt has been in the hurt business for nearly 15 years.
Up next for Mark will be an intriguing and much-anticipated showdown against fellow pudgy pugilist, Roy Nelson, which is expected to headline UFC Fight Night 52 on Sept. 20, 2014 in Saitama, Japan, and will air exclusively on Fight Pass.
After losing his UFC debut to Sean McCorkle (yes, seriously), Hunt went on a tear by reeling off four straight knockout victories over the likes of Ben Rothwell, Stefan Struve, Chris Tuchscherer, and Cheick Kongo.
That streak nearly earned him his first-ever title fight inside the Octagon; however, Junior dos Santos put an end to his Cinderella run at UFC 160 by knocking him out via spinning hook kick.
Hunt was last seen fighting to a bloody draw against Antonio Silva at UFC Fight Night 33 in December 2013. A bout that proved to be one of the most entertaining fights of the year.
