Top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender, Anthony Johnson, wants to go to the head of the light heavyweight class. And he knows the fastest way to do that is by cutting in front of Alexander Gustafsson, who happens to be next in line for a 205-pound title shot.
"Rumble" goes public with his request:
@AlexTheMauler I respect you as a fighter but this is business. @danawhite said our fight makes sense. There's nobody left for us to fight plus the fans are begging for us to fight so let's give the fans what they wanna see!
See how UFC President Dana White feels about the potential match up right here.
Gustafsson is recovering from knee surgery and will be ready to fight in January, which just so happens to be when Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will battle for "Bones'" belt (thanks to this). That means "The Mauler" would have to remain inactive for at least another eight months if he held out for a title shot.
And if the winner of "Jones vs. Cormier" gets injured during their fight, it could be even longer.
The ball is in the Swedish court.
