James Lee Mein, father of co-main event fighter Jordan Mein, was arrested at the UFC Fight Night 49 weigh-in event on Friday (Aug. 22, 2014) on charges of sexual battery, which allegedly took place at the Hyatt Regency, the UFC host hotel for tonight's "Henderson vs. Dos Anjos" mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
UFC has since issued a statement (via MMA Junkie), taking a hardline stance against the accused.
"We were made aware that James Lee Mein, father of UFC competitor Jordan Mein, was arrested on allegations of felony sexual assault. Mr. Mein is accused of sexually assaulting a housekeeper at the UFC's host hotel in Tulsa, Okla. The UFC finds the allegations against Mr. Mein deplorable, and we fully support local law enforcement in its investigation. The UFC is also prohibiting Mr. Mein from attending tonight's event should he post bail. Jordan Mein will remain on tonight's card."
No telling what the mental state of Mein Jr. must be at this point, especially considering he's less than 12 hours away from throwing hands opposite the dangerous Mike Pyle inside the BOK Center on FOX Sports 1 (more on that here).
The elder Mein, 47, recently competed at the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) event last February, getting knocked out by UFC veteran Tim Hague inside the opening frame. "Gladiator" (6-13) is due in court on August 29 to answer for his charges.
