Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today (Aug. 21, 2014) issued temporary suspensions to mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters Robert Drysdale and Kevin Casey, who both failed drug tests while competing under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner.
The NSAC will call them back at a later date and hand down their respective punishments, which are expected to include fines, suspensions, and the overturning of their wins to a "no contest."
Drysdale submitted Keith Berish at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF 19) finale back on July 6, but returned an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio of 12:1, far above the 6:1 ratio the NSAC uses as its cutoff point. It's the second time the grappling phenom has been popped while competing for UFC.
Casey, meanwhile, defeated Bubba Bush via first-round knockout at the UFC 175 pay-per-view (PPV) event the day before, only to throw it all away after testing positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone. It was the "King's" second appearance inside the Octagon after an unsuccessful stint on TUF 17.
UFC has publicly backed the NSAC on its decision (more on that here) and we'll have more information regarding their fighting futures after the commission's next hearing.
Stay tuned.
