Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heads to Bangor, Maine, for the first time ever this Saturday (Aug. 16, 2014) with UFC Fight Night 47, which is scheduled to go down inside Cross Insurance Center. In the main event, Ryan Bader will make another bid for Light Heavyweight contendership against Ovince St. Preux, who is currently riding a five-fight win streak with four finishes.
In addition, Gray Maynard will look to snap his recent funk against the slick boxing of Ross Pearson, who was last seen being robbed by the judges against Diego Sanchez.
UFC Fight Night 47 will kick off several weeks of densely-packed UFC action. Let's see if it can't kick off a fiscal renaissance as well.
UFC Fight Night 47 Odds For The Under Card:
Zach Makovsky (-320) vs. Jussier da Silva (+260)
Sara McMann (-335) vs. Lauren Murphy (+275)
Tom Watson (-130) vs. Sam Alvey (+110)
Frankie Saenz (-170) vs. Nolan Ticman (+130)
Thoughts: Yeah, let’s just move on ... nothing to see here.
UFC Fight Night 47 Odds For The Main Card:
Ryan Bader (-165) vs. Ovince St. Preux (+145)
Ross Pearson (-135) vs. Gray Maynard (+115)
Brad Tavares (-260) vs. Tim Boetsch (+220)
Seth Baczynski (-140) vs. Alan Jouban (+120)
Shawn Jordan (-190) vs. Jack May (+165)
Thiago Tavares (-175) vs. Robbie Peralta (+155)
Thoughts: To be honest, not seeing much here, either. Maynard’s chin has deteriorated to the point where I’m not confident picking him even against someone he holds a significant wrestling advantage against and both Bader and "OSP" have their own vulnerabilities.
Jack May could be worth a look just based on Jordan’s subpar jaw, but the only person I see being a good value on this whole card is Robbie Peralta.
Peralta desperately needs to tighten up his punches and his ground game suffers from the flaw of being more or less nonexistent. That said, he hits like a freight train and Tavares isn’t known for his punch resistance. Plus, this will be Tavares’ first time cutting to 145 pounds. And he’s gotten injured the last two times he’s tried.
I’m not ultra-confident, but I think a moderate bet on Peralta is the only thing that kind of makes sense.
UFC Fight Night 47 Best Bets:
- Single bet -- Robbie Peralta: Bet $40 to make $62
Two powerful dudes with a lot of finishes on their resumes. It ought to be fun while it lasts!
