Armbars only work if you can get your opponent to the floor.
That was a lesson Marina Shafir learned on Sunday night (Aug. 10, 2014) when she was knocked out by Amanda Bell in the first round of their featherweight fight at the Lights Out Promotion (LOP) "Chaos at the Casino 5" pro mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Inglewood, California.
Check out the video below:
Shafir moves to 1-1 in defeat, while Bell improves to 2-2 with the victory.
The "Supernova from Moldova" had a lot of hype behind her heading into last weekend's contest. Aside from training alongside Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, Shafir also had five straight wins -- all submissions -- as an amateur.
It appears she still has some work to do.
The loss was another setback for the "Four Horsewomen," as Jessamyn Duke -- who lost to Bell as an amateur back in 2011 -- has suffered back-to-back losses inside the Octagon. Shayna Baszler has a chance to turn things around against Bethe Correia later this month is Sacramento.
My night, my victory. Thank you Marina Shafir for taking this fight and everyone who supported and believe in me.... http://t.co/T17xL74fYw
