Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is sorting through its middleweight division in a quest to find potential title contenders, recently booking Strikeforce import Tim Kennedy for a 185-pound showdown against menacing Olympian Yoel Romero.
When and where?
At the recently-reshuffled UFC 178 pay-per-view (PPV) mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which takes place on Sept. 27, 2014, inside a venue to be named in Las Vegas, Nevada. That's according to veteran reporter Adam Hill of Las Vegas Review-Journal, who announced the pairing on Tuesday.
Kennedy (18-4) has been perfect in three fights since making his way over from the Strikeforce promotion in 2013. He was last seen taking a unanimous decision victory from Michael Bisping, in a lackluster affair that headlined The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Nations" Finale last April.
But that same wrestling-based offense is in danger of being nullified here.
That's because Romero won a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in (you guessed it) wrestling. In addition, the "Soldier of God" -- who has seven knockouts in eight wins -- is also riding a four-fight winning streak, including a win over Brad Tavares on FOX.
Who ya' got?
UFC 178 will be headlined by a light heavyweight rematch pitting reigning division kingpin Jon Jones against Swedish nemesis Alexander Gustafsson (details), in a fight that is expected to answer the many questions raised at UFC 165 last September.
