Despite his tough exterior and the fact that he beats people up for a living, Nick Diaz is not a violent person.
In fact, the Stockton slugger dislikes violence so much that he can't stand to see other people get hurt. That's why you won't catch him watching MTV's "Ridiculousness" show, which consists of home videos of everyday people falling on their face and busting their asses doing daily things, or their best "Jackass" impressions.
"I think people lie to you and tell you that they enjoy doing things that they don't like to do. A lot of it is a front and they like to put on a good look in front of their family and that way they have a positive effect on the people around them. So they keep their mouth shut and put on a smile or they say bullshit like they like to hurt people. I'm a non-violent person, I don't want to hurt nobody and I don't especially enjoy violence. That show, 'Ridiculousness,' you know, the host (Rob Dyrdek) is a really funny guy, I love that guy, but I hate watching people get hurt over and over again. It's not something I enjoy doing or watching. When people say they go out there to hurt someone, or they love it, they are full of shit. I do what I do because I have to do it and for whatever reasons are behind it. A lot of it has to do with martial arts, and if there was ever any quit in me, I wouldn't have made it this far anyway. You can call it a curse or whatever you want. But that's just how I feel."
Warrior's code?
Though he's made a living as a talented mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter by cracking heads and snapping limbs, Diaz revealed during a recent media conference call (listen to it) that he doesn't try to hurt his foe. In fact, he doesn't fight people like Anderson Silva -- whom he'll face at UFC 183 on Jan. 31, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada -- because he loves it, but rather because he has no other choice.
Unlike those people on "Ridiculousness," who more often than not, bring the pain and violence upon themselves.
