Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is looking to shake up the Light Heavyweight landscape with a potential 205-pound showdown later this fall season, pitting former division No. 1-ranked contender Glover Teixeira against wrestling powerhouse Phil Davis.
That's according to a report from Combate.com (via Lowkick MMA), which revealed that that two men have verbally agreed to tango inside the Octagon.
Teixeira is coming off a five-round drubbing at the hands of division kingpin Jon Jones at UFC 172 (video). Before that, the power-punching Brazilian had gone eight years without a defeat, including winning his first five five fights inside the eight-walled cage.
Davis, on the other hand, came up short against Anthony Johnson in the co-main event of UFC 172. Prior to that, "Mr. Wonderful" was riding a three-fight win streak with wins over Wagner Prado, Vinny Magalhaes and Lyoto Machida.
While a win won't necessarily put either contender back in the title picture, it will give the victor a boost in the rankings (see them here) and inch him closer to his title dreams.
While a date or venue has yet to be announced for this potential slugfest, UFC 179, which goes done on Oct. 27, 2014, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, featuring a main event title fight between Featherweight champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes (details), could be a possible landing spot.
Can you dig it?
