I guess he got tired of waiting for Nate Diaz to answer the phone.
Undefeated 155-pound sensation Myles Jury has been paired off against former PRIDE lightweight champion Takanori Gomi for the UFC Fight Night 52: "Hunt vs. Nelson" mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Fight Pass, which is scheduled for Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, on Sept. 20, 2014.
FOX Sports reported the pending match up on Wednesday.
Jury (14-0) has been in cruise control for the last six years and already has five straight wins under the ZUFFA banner. After outworking fellow Ultimate Fighter (TUF) stars Ramsey Nijem and Michael Johnson, "The Fury" scored his most high-profile win to date, a unanimous decision victory over the ailing Diego Sanchez last March.
Another big win overseas and it's hard to imagine a title shot won't be far behind.
But that may be easier said than done against Gomi, a crafty striker with a ton of experience. In fact, had the judges not boned him against the aforementioned Sanchez in March of 2013, "The Fireball Kid" would be the winner of four straight, including his most recent unanimous decision nod over Isaac Vallie-Flagg back in April.
UFC Fight Night 52 will feature a main event between Japanese fan favorite, Mark Hunt, against fellow heavyweight heavy hitter, Roy Nelson. Elsewhere on the card, former women's bantamweight No. 1 contender Miesha Tate welcomes bug buddy Rin Nakai to the Octagon.
