Kyle Kingsbury is a man of his word.
"Kingsbu" said he was going to retire from mixed martial arts (MMA) if he lost to Patrick Cummins at the UFC on FOX 12 event last Saturday night (July 26, 2014) and welp, that's exactly what happened. "Durkin" won by way of unanimous decision, and Kingsbury hung 'em up.
From MMA Fighting:
"I'm not sure if it was the time off or the fact his wrestling is so good, that I was never able to get comfortable in the Octagon. He set his takedowns well and I really couldn't do much to stop them. That was definitely my last fight. I told everyone I didn't want to be a .500 fighter and so enough was enough. It didn't make sense to get beat up anymore."
Kingsbury (11-6, 1 NC) stumbled out of the gate in his Octagon debut, going down on points to fellow Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 contestant "Filthy" Tom Lawler. The Californian rebounded with four straight wins, then collapsed into a string of four consecutive losses.
With the last one sending him home for good.
