Dustin Poirier: If Conor McGregor wasn't representing Ireland, he'd be fighting on the UFC 178 Prelims
Dustin Poirier won the Conor McGregor sweepstakes, as "The Diamond" was booked to face "Notorious" at UFC 178 on Sept. 27, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It's a fight most featherweights have been clamoring to get. Not to get them closer to a title shot, but rather for the chance to end the hype-train and beat up a man who has made a name for himself and managed to steal the spotlight by what they feel is simply running his mouth. Speaking to MMA Fight Corner ( via MMA Fighting), Poirier says the main reason McGregor is getting so much promotional push is because he's representing Ireland and nothing more. Dustin, for one, is not buying the hype and isn't drinking the Kool-Aid, and come fight night, he'll look to silence some "groupies" and prove to the mixed martial arts (MMA) world that Conor isn't the deity people are making him out to be. And at the end of the day, Poirier says Conor's legions of followers won't be in the Octagon to save him from an "ass whoopin'."
