Top welterweight contender and one half of the headlining act, Matt Brown, came in heavy for his "Ruthless" showdown against Robbie Lawler, tipping the scale at 172.5. "The Immortal," however, faces no penalty from California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), because it would not allow him to attempt a second cut.
John Morgan was on the scene as the mess unfolded:
"Brown planned on making weight, but the commission told him he couldn't cut anymore. Dana (White) asked commission, 'If he's willing to cut, how can you fine him?' They went back and forth, and commission agreed."
According to Morgan, Lawler was unfazed by the scale fail and just wants to fight.
UFC strawweight Juliana Lima also missed weight (117) but unlike Brown, she will be fined 20 percent of her purse (10 percent to her opponent and 10 percent to the commission), because she was afforded a second chance to weigh in and still came in heavy (116.5).
Moving on.
See you then!
